Konstantin: But the more you listen to
more new things (even in your situation),
the more original your tastes will become. :)
Everyone has to start somewhere, and most
people start with what they know and then
move and explore from that. Like others
who are sent a lot of promotional material, I realize
that I'm lucky to be given early access to a great
number of things that not everyone may be
able to access, but I post my lists in the hopes
that people will see something and perhaps
investigate it further: see a label they know
but maybe the artist will be unfamiliar and take
a look into that, see that a label is in their
country but it's not something they've heard
of, etc. It seems to be working because I
do get a lot of emails asking about such
and such a release I listed and that makes
me happy that perhaps that interest will
lead to someone getting into or learning
about something they might not have
known about otherwise. Same reason
I do things like the site, the show, and
the writing. And I'm sure the
other people on the list who post playlists
and other lists, do shows, write, review,
etc, feel the same way. Heck, I read
Lance McGannon's playlists, Dave Segal's
playlists, and playlists from the other
people who do shows because a) I'm
interested in what others are playing and
b) I'm looking to see what new things
they have (because we don't all play
the same things and we can all learn
from each other :)) It's
certainly not a "ha ha look what I've
got access to that you don't kind of thing",
that's rather childish. (In fact, the childish
thing to do would be to keep the info
and music to yourself, and *not* share
it. Sharing information is an unselfish
thing, keeping music and info to yourself
and *not* sharing it is what is selfish.)
I have no interest
in saying I have X number of records
more than you, or I have this and you
don't, or that kind of thing. I try to be descriptive
about my copy (by putting "test", "CDR"
that type of thing) so people know it's
a promo and coming soon and don't
frustrate themselves (or a store owner :))
in looking for something that's not yet
available. I know I get frustrated when
I try to track down something that ain't out
yet, so I'm sure others are the same way
about that. Thanks. Andrew Duke :)
