hearing this talk of funkcarma. i heard that Musik aus strom is going to be putting out a 12" by them. also they are releasing a 12" by lexaunculpt which i am anxiously awaiting. i saw him perform in chicago several months back. he was opening for funkstorung. an excellent set. i think he is someone to look out for. his double density e.p. is great. he has a wonderful sense for melody and different song structures and intricate/subtle beats. plus he's a really nice guy. anyone have any dates on these releases?? later, greg davis autumn records www.amug.org/~jkdavis/autumn also waiting for the michael fakesch "demon CD" and the new funkstorung album which they should be finishing up soon. todays a good day, i finally got my copy of "hi scores".

Also Funckarma is sposed to have an album on Djak-Up-Bitch later this year, which should compete with the new Autechre album for sheer "I have to have it"-ness. I didn't think Funckarma's 12"s were great until I turned them up loud, then I started hearing all the little nuances on them. I mean, they put Funkstorung to shame (their version was way better than the remix) which is not easy. i saw him perform in chicago several months back. he was opening for funkstorung. an excellent set. i think he is someone to look out for. his double density e.p. is great. he has a wonderful sense for melody and different song structures and intricate/subtle beats. plus he's a really nice guy. I personally think Lexaunculpt has tons of potential, but that "Double Density" EP was really five of the same song that didn't do it for me in terms of originality or excitement. "Sleeping Alone" (b3) was excellent though. I would expect his MaS release should be better which would hopefully promise great things. anyone have any dates on these releases?? I'd ask mas@ovb.net, if they don't know, who does? (or maybe it's orb.net, I forgot) Quick aside on Funkstorung...just read their new album is going to have lots of hip-hop vocals, electro, other strange touches. I respect their desire to be original and innovative, but does this seem like a potential retread of Beaumont Hannant or Squarepusher? (excellent early releases followed up by alienating the fanbase) I suppose we'll have to wait and see. B.

I have to disagree with this statement...I thought the Funkstorung remix was excellent. One of my favorite tracks by them. Funckarma is good but they definately don't "put funkstorung to shame". ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Bid and sell for free at http://auctions.yahoo.com

I was unimpressed by lexaunculpt "double density", honestly. Maybe I'm just getting cynical, but there was very little to keep my interest.. definitely potential there, but I think he needs a bit of time for his sound to evolve. Got my 'hi scores' too. Very nice. I also picked up Guinea's 'tosstones' (EP? 12"?). I liked this one a lot, dervative of the chocolate industries sound but not covering already tread ground like so many other people on choc.ind./schematic. And a steal at almost half the price of most imports. later Andrew

Lexaunculpt said to me a couple months ago that it's not coming out on MaS anymore. He said that the better songs from it will end up on various compilations & such. Marc Poirier

I have to disagree with your disagreement here! I think Funckarma's tracks on that 12" are MUCH better than Funkstorung's track, and indeed better than most Funkstorung. Only my opinion though. One of those Funckarma tracks is absolutely beautiful. I loved the Funkstorung stuff a while ago but remixes get old and I thought "Post ART" (their last 12", right?) was seriously lacking. Oh well. On the topic of Lexaunculpt's 12" not being on MaS...everywhere I look it seems to be eminent. Upcoming release lists, websites, etc. Maybe it's not going to come out, but it seems a shame to break it up onto various comps nobody wants. B.

the more i listen to funckarma's 'part 2' (still looking for part 1 ~ anyone?) the less i see a likening to funkstorung. sure, they use the same recipe for beats, but funckarma is way out there. they're doing exactly what i'd wish autechre had kept doing (read: interesting music), plus some stuff that i haven't heard anyone else doing. they're a top act in my book. speaking of funkstorung though... is it just me, or are the freeform & while 12"s really meant for 33rpm? i know funkstorung & affiliated projects (& swap, too) record at 45 (although they like to say that they can be listened to at both speeds, which is true for the most part), but 'seek' sounds way silly at 45 & 'glob' is too fast. i remember there being some discussion about this a few months ago but there seemed to be a consensus that 'seek' was meant for 45. anyway, at 33, 'seek' is easily in my 12" top 5 of the year, along with the aforementioned 'part 2'. though i doubt i buy enough records in a year to really be able to paste out a meaningful top 5, but there, dig my subjective judgement, dude. ~ david
