Subject:: (idm) How do you convert cassette tracks into mp3's or onto cd?

A friend just found and let me borrow a cassette of Future [Shock]'s "...For the Seekers" ep. I have been looking for this tape for approximately three years now. When I return it, I will probably never see it again. Can anybody tell me how to digitally immortalize this tape into mp3's or onto cd? I have the Mac OS, but I also have access to Windows (with an internal cd burner that still needs to be hooked up) , so I'll accept instructions for either operating system. Should I record each track separately onto the hard drive and then convert each track into mp3's? How do you do that? Any other suggestions are appreciated. you'll want to clean up the tape with some sort of "restoration" software, i personally like the noise reduction plugins on soundforge, but there are lots more out there. ask around , as many people have different preferences... record each track onto your hard drive, and clean them up one at a time, you might have to do a bit of normalizing and/or compression/limiting as well , to sort out the levels. for converting to mp3's, i like audiocatalyst because it's a nice stable program, and it gives you a lot of encoding options, once again, ask around...these are only my preferences :) hope some of this helps, dave
