Just wanted to know what others think about this cd. I really like it. To me
it sounds like a combination of Funkstorung, Bomb 20, Twisted Science, and
Public Energy Energy #1 all rolled into one. The rhythms are more
hip-hoppish, funkier, darker, and more DHR-distorted sounding than Public
Energy #1. The groove factor is also much higher than PE, so that djs will
definitely get some use out of the vinyl release. Maybe too slow for the
dancefloor, but perfect for any head-bobbing crowds whether they're into idm
or not. Overall, it sounds just a little bit more accessible than Public
Energy without compromising any artistry. A very solid release IMO that will
make my top ten list this year.
Concerning Speedy J, this artist really snuck up on me. I didn't know that I
was such a huge fan of his work until I bought Shocking Hobby and realized
that I owned quite a few of his cds (including his various eps and FAX
titles). It wasn't intentional. I would just check out something with his
name on it, like it tremendously, and buy it. Maybe it's because he didn't
have an ep out every 6 months that I didn't notice.
Anyway, does anybody know where I can find Ginger, G-Spot, and the Speedy J
mix cd for the X-Mix series? Not willing to spend the $30 for Ginger that
I've seen at various websites.
I"m also looking for any Speedy J articles or interviews on the web.
Thanks!
