Isnt this one of those deals where you gave away some Cds and he replied first? I really hope you arent trashing someone on the list who you decided to GIVE something away to for free. Wonderful, but the rest of the list doesnt really need to hear you call him a "MotherF___" , and question his integrity, just because YOU dont feel he's as big of a "sticker" as you. If someone rips you off some major $$$ , and a fiscal quarter goes by with no response, then you can go up the IDM P.A. system and cry in the mike, otherwise you'll just piss off a bunch of people who dont care that Bill promised to burn you a CDR or whatever (out of pure goodwill, not as part of your deal) and hasnt gotten around to it. Too many people really DO get ripped off and crap like this doesnt help those people.

Kelley, First, this is completely unacceptable. Second, here's the situation. You asked if anyone wanted some CDs *FOR FREE*. I said yes, and suggested I could give you a mix CD of mine as a way of saying "thank you". I got the CDs and said thanks, but haven't had a chance to mail you a mix CD yet, nor the tape I also later said I'd give you (again, a favor, not part of any deal we struck). To take this to a public forum is childish. I apologize for not doing the favor I'd said I would do, but understand that I am extremely busy at work, am in the middle of moving, and am generally busy elsewhere. I'll get you the CDs, but I request that you do the right thing and own up to the specifics of the situation. I don't need my name slandered over a favor I was trying to do. I am ready to support Irene on this one. Not just because it is Irene (which would be suffice in the first place) but because all the correspondence he posts and our private conversations proved that he's a cool guy with just a specific written languange and feeling of humor. The shadows arent a bad place to be. If youd shut up and actually read posts , visit label's websites, and go to Dan's excellent Madvision IDM archives youll find you can answer your own questions about music without having to re-ask the same old crap covered a few weeks & months ago. Do a little research on your own and you wont have to use the IDM list as your personal "Ask Jeeves" a dozen times a day! Why else do you think you are 'discovering' old music that 'no one' told you about, when 6-8 months ago that music was a tired thread. Kelley is often too quick on his "send" key. He often says things which are inflammatory and can easily be taken in the worst possible light. I first began "talking" to him when he jumped in on a debate a LONG time ago on 313. We went back and forth for some time. This is not an easy post to make because I respect Ernie, Bill VanLoo and many of the others with whom Kelley has, um, interacted. I have seen Kelley say things about which I *know* he has regrets and believe he struggles to restrain himself when people express views which he opposes. I met Kelley face to face on a recent trip to Chicago and I have to say that he was a perfect gentleman...congenial, polite and really mellow. I can understand why some people don't see it that way. He was involved in a bit of a fracas (or two) on 313 as well - but I know he's trying to mellow out. I don't want to be seen as "taking sides" here, but this really IS a case of the person behind the email being a bit different than what the email presents. This is one of the tough things about cyberspace...decontextualization. Truth be told, there are many of us on IDM-L who know the Kelley behind the email...many old-timers. I can understand why he ruffles feathers, but I have to stand up and I say I look forward to grabbing an espresso with him again if he comes up for the Festival here in Detroit over Memorial Weekend. I hope to finally hook with Bill, Lance and a bunch of others there, too. BTW, anyone have the latest on that? I think I can safely say that Kelley and I have worked out our differences. Regarding teh Detroit Electronic Music Festival - their official web site just went up a few days ago at http://www.demf.net There's no artist line-up yet, and there's lots more content to come, but it's available. I believe the press conference is scheduled for the 28th, at which the line-up will be announced.
