don't forget african head charge and creation rebel. both of them suffer
from late-career smooveness, but the early albums are excellent wiggy
stuff. I believe On-U has been reissuing them recently, but if you can
track down the 'great vintage' discs they're a slightly better value.

also must say that bill laswell has put out a few good records but I'd
agree that anything with his name on it should be approached with caution.
that said, I'd still highly recommend the (non-dub) first massacre record
- "killing time" and most last exit albums. in the dub style, probably
his best work was Divination I and II, which both have nice long murky
stuff going on.
lee perry is also putting out some pretty questionable records these days
- I did enjoy his Super Ape Inna Jungle and one of the other records that
came out around the same time. the prime stuff of course is from the late
60s and early 70s. Grand Royal magazine did a nice feature on lee perry
in its first or second issue, with a fairly comprehensive LP discography
and recommendations. my personal faves are the recent 'dry acid' comp. on
trojan and the lee perry box with rhythm shower, double seven and africa's
....something. blood? can't recall at the moment.
speaking of dub I've been meaning to check out some of the rhythm and
sound / burial mix stuff - is it worthwhile? any suggestions where to
start?
