don't know what that problem is - there's been loads of good d+b coming out recently - two that immediately spring to mind are the Jonny L album and the Decoder album - and True Playaz presents Real Vibes is pretty good - though not necessarily that recent. Though the most recent DJ Kicks album on K7 looks like it has a bunch of good stuff on - mixed by Kemistry + Storm..

The Biostaics 12" on Audio Couetre (sic?)/Moving Shadow is excellent. The recent Dylan 12" on Renegade Hardware is really good as well. Tons of hard-edged d&b is coming out and I'm happier because of it.

Agreed! There has been loads of great drum n bass releases recently. Black Science Labs, Bad Company, Jonny L, Magnetic Media, Usual Suspects, Ram Trilogy 3, Voyager comp, Ryme Tyme, Wormhole comp, Test 5, etc. Etc. And some nice pretty stuff on Good Looking/Looking Good. The one I am really looking forward to this week is the new DOM & ROLAND - Parasite/Homicide (Moving Shadow). Here is a blurb on it: _______________________________________________________ DOM & ROLAND - PARASITE/HOMICIDE (Moving Shadow) After the brilliant Industry lp (Moving Shadow) and Trauma/Transmissions 12" (Renegade Hardware), comes this release which is truly a work of art. As funky yet rugged as hell beats drop in over the opening synths leading to an amen that introduces a dirty & quirky b-line that is so funky you won't even care that it's rough enough to cut diamonds. Check this out _______________________________________________________ Also the new SOURCE DIRECT on Science/Astralwerks is REALLY COOL!!

I haven't listened to it yet, but the tracklisting is good. I'm sure it is worth getting, just haven't gotten around to it. Also...hopefully Nico (No U-Turn) will get around to releasing that Fierce mix cd called Trauma, which compiles alot of the No U-Turn catalog. Oh and Saigon 2 the Optical remix of Ryme Tyme is awesome!! _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com

As follows up appear to confirm, the problem with "current" and "Jungle"in the same phrase crops up if you never liked No U-Turn, and are quietly cursing the way Nico, Trace et al turned drum'n'bass on its head. Some people say "come on, the music hasn't changed that much", but I reckon something really has changed in the character of at least what gets played out. So much is now about a big dirty bass-line and one groove. And structurally so much of it is so similar - bass and beat with a few other sounds, then a breakdown to the bass and introduce a new sound, then just back to where you were. For the record, I find most drill'n'bass or whatever a noodly irrelevance, so it's not like I'm afraid of a dancefloor... I just much prefer something more rolling, with the emphasis on breaks and shifts in dynamics. Your right that the No U-Turn crew did have a pretty big effect on the dancefloor. There have been lots of releases that are dark and menacing in nature and alot of them to have a similar breakdown. But that does not encompass all of the new drum n bass that is out there. Certainly styles like "Afro-funk" as some call it, don't really sound related to No U-Turn/tech step. There is also plenty of the "intelligent" drum n bass coming out. Not to mention jump up, etc. I personally give a massive thumbs up to labels like No U-Turn/Virus/Ram they put great dance music. It stuff that is aggressive, lots of bass and fun to dance to. There a hell of alot of energy in a club when you have a good drum n bass dj behind the deck. I get way more hyper to that stuff than techno and house. Although a good techno dj is also great. I Besides what genre of DANCE music isn't "structurally similar" in some sense. I hear alot more surprises in drum n bass than any other form of DANCE music. That's what i like about it. Even alot of IDM is becoming "structurally similar". If they aren't trying to sound like early Aphex, then they are usually trying to sound like Autechre. Too many people are trying to sound like Autechre these days.

I use to dig drill n bass, but I have no taste for it anymore. _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com
