A man after my own taste. Both these albums are excellent. Pop yes, but intelligent also. Takes me back. New Gold Dream anyone? A.     \ /    [mailto:andrewj@mindless.com]      - + -         / \    [http://www.zip.com.au/~andrewj/]

Anyone into IDM should listen carefully to the b-side of "Scream Down..." 12" from '82, a track called "Cucumber..(something)" that is in 5/4 and has a strange melody. Not sure what led them to make this track, but I'd sure like to pick through a midi file of it. "African and White" (esp 12" remix '82) has great percussion and exotic arrangement of synths.

Eh, the instrumentals maybe, as I can't stand the arena-rock that crept into SMinds after their quirky years. I don't think having Herbie Hancock on that lp really helped. solenoid

While I agree about arena-rock afterwards, I love the feel of New Gold Dream, the way the keyboards blend into the guitar and the ambience. Even the Herbie solo. Steve Lillywhite did the production work, long before his U2 days. But I'll stop there, before we drift off the IDM plane completely. A.
