Indeed, I like many of you, am mystified about the definite lack of female IDM fans. Perhaps not many women are into IDM because not maky women make IDM? Think about it, 98% of IDM acts are male, but then again, many cock rock acts are male too... Perhaps IDM needs more sexy front men? Nah... I dunno, personally speaking, my girlfriend is one of the biggest IDM fans I know of, and she mike paradinas' most fervent supporter. What is it she sees in the music? According to her, it has more "color" than any other music she has been exposed to, and I agree with her. Oh, and she also finds the music quite sexy, but maybe she's just an exception, and IDM is really a guy thing... -Andrew S -- Propecia: Are you taking enough? http://www.calvin.edu/~asmith89/

You know, the promo shots for _Lunatic Harness_ seemed to really be recasting Mike in this weird sexy guy role. And Chris Jeffs has gotten better looking of late too. Hmm... a Rephlex conspiracy?

hi, normally i lurk but on this subject i thought it'd be good to speak up...being that i'm female and all :o) | | Indeed, I like many of you, am mystified about the definite lack of |female IDM fans. Perhaps not many women are into IDM because not maky women |make IDM? I think this is a close to correct statement. but IMO its not the lack of female producers, its simply that more females have no idea what IDM is. i love IDM and without knowing it, have for years. i stopped being so involed with the whole techno scene about 3 years ago when i had a child, but still continued to collect vinyl, just recently some friends were over flipping through my stuff and informed me that most of my collection is IDM. i really had no idea because i just collect what i love and at that point it wasn't labeled IDM. Think about it, 98% of IDM acts are male, but then again, many cock |rock acts are male too... Perhaps IDM needs more sexy front men? Nah... nah ... i love brilliant talented geeks with keyboards :oP | I dunno, personally speaking, my girlfriend is one of the biggest IDM |fans I know of, and she mike paradinas' most fervent supporter. Puhleeeze...I'm sure that Mike would rebuff that. I think it has more to do with his UK label (Hut) wanting to put a face and personality to the music...plus Mike's 'involved' and has a little boy. Peter Wohelski (ex) Astralwerks

I must say that I made the unfortunate mistake of not dating the sexiest little idm girl I ever met. . . but we did stay friends I seem to surround myself with a large percentage of women bystanders and eventually I woo them all over towards a more idm / experimental type of music. Typically this involves little woo-ing because most of the women are already into electronic forms of music of one sort or another, so to move them over to a much more interesting style of electronic/machine based music doesnt take much. I personally know many more female IDMers than male IDMers. . .whenever I head out to a show I usually travel amongst an a group of ladies who are quite addicted to such music (and the men who make it). I seem to be in the minority though from the posts I have read this evening.... one of my best friends, Gwen, even knew to get me some Autechre, Coldcut, and a Mouse on mars cd for my birthday (she even talked me out of Brace Yourself, which goes to show that one cannot have enough musically opinionated friends). So I guess I really am as lucky as they keep telling me (except when I get a new girlfriend, what is it about female friends that makes them always hate your new girlfriends?) Oh well, guess thats why im single again, they must know something I dont :) Well, just my $0.01 [Sn] now playing: platEAU - Music for Grass Bars

I knew that, but you will notice there's something about the poses and the sunglasses and all that that just seems a bit off.

probably the same reason that not as many females as males are into working on cars. there's some hidden attraction that many men have with machines. idm is an extension of that i suppose. the music normally is quite complex and almost entirely machine made, pretty much a musical version of going to a hot rod show.... but i could be wrong. .. brian rachielles kcsb 91.9 fm santa barbara http://www.rain.org/~audio

some thoughts from another most-of-the-time-female lurker: I really don't know too much about IDM music. I have to admit that most of what i hear/learn comes through this list. Also, my boyfriend is an AVID collector of IDM. I don't have a lot of money so i can't afford to be a completist and buy every hot IDM release as soon as it hits the cool online record stores. Granted, my meagre music collection does pay homage to such IDM staples as Aphex Twin, Autechre, Plastikman, Mouse On Mars, blah blah blah, and so on, but I tend to hear the more obscure stuff from my boy. Be that as it may, i really [no, i mean REALLY] like about 99.473% of what he plays. I couldn't tell you in jargon WHY i think release x by artist y on label z is good, to me it just IS.

Uhn-uh. I have absolutely no qualms about the apparent lack of girls who make music. Who cares? As long as the music is good, i'll listen to it :)
