I'm looking for reviews on a couple of albums I'm considering getting: John Beltran: Earth & Nightfall (R&S) This got a few good notices on the list when it came out a few years ago. Does it hold up today? Do people who own it still listen to it? Nu Era: Beyond Gravity (Reinforced) Someone must have this/have heard it. (I think Che mentioned it, maybe.) Is it worth the outrageous price I'd have to pay for it? I love the Nu Era track on Freezone 3, but don't particularly like the one on The Deepest Shade of Techno. Thanks in advance for any response. I picked this up the other day. I like it quite a bit. Beltran uses new age style sounds but gets away with it. Very lush heart felt techno. I recommend it. -daniel

listened to it some days ago, defintely still kicks ass. true techno romantics! this one is most true, but his other three albums are fine as well..

I justed wanted to say that if you are expecting this John Beltran to be anywhere near as good as 'Ten Days of Blue', it's not. It still has some good cuts but I think there were alot more vocals on Earth & Nightfall, which kind of disappointed me. --"Chris.Hilker" <cspot@hyperreal.org> wrote:

I'm always listening to it this. Probably my favourite album if thats anything to go by. A lot of the tracks are a lot further away from IDM then "Ten days of Blue" and "The cry" but thats not neccesarily a bad thing. Theres a couple of tracks a bit like those two, a couple of 4/4's, one almost classical piece, an acoustic guitar fueled track and all dripping with emotion. This is a must have in my books.

Don't know this one but I recommend their "Aerials on Saturn" ep on Ovum recordings. /John

You rang? Yeah, I've been hiding out for the past month, but Nu Era's enough to cause me to de-lurk. I agree w/ you on the DSoT track, it was ok, but I expected more. I guess now I'm going to have to buy Freezone 3. :) Every time I play Beyond Gravity, I ask myself "why don't Dego & Mark do more of this?". The album's not perfect, but I listen to it regularly, more than their other stuff. I think the album starts off on the wrong foot, a track with a repeating riff that I find kinda annoying. The second track seems like it's going in the same direction, but then some smooth chords takeover and save it. The 3rd & 4th tracks are two versions of the same track, Mono Concentrate, and are some of the greatest melancholy Detroit-style Techno ever. I'd say it's worth the price of the album just for these two tracks. The last 5 tracks are more upbeat Techno, mostly very good, though the last one suffers from rather severe tuning problems which greatly diminish my ability to enjoy it. I got my copy thru CDEurope several years ago for maybe $25. I'm guessing it's out-of-print now - does this mean collector's prices have set in? It's hard to say what it's worth, but it's a shame it's not more widely available. Che PS - I saw 4 Hero's Two Pages for cheap at either CDNow or Music Blvd, but it didn't say anything about 1 or 2 CDs. It did have a tracklisting. Has anyone researched this???
