it's probably the new domestic release. The other CD is _live_. Someone else has probably answered this already (I'm on the digest, sorry), but the extra CD in the new release is the Speedy J live CD released last year on +8. -- David

I talked to Jochem two days ago and the planing is April. The music is recorded for some time now,but he switched to another label and that takes time, as you can see. Anyone hear him play at Lowlands? Than you know is different than before. For those who were not there, Speedy J meets L.T.J. Bukem. Not to offend either one of them, for me they are both masters in their field. Just to let you know. Joost

Just come into possession of Public Energy No. 1. Wonderful stuff. Very, very much like Chiastic Slide but with more in the way of ambient bits, which are quite a bit darker than they were on G Spot. Pretty bit change of direction. Also heard the latest Photek single (forget the title, Japanese sounding one which was the Two Swords mix or something) the other day. This is the sort of direction I wished Tom Jenkinson had followed. Heard Hard Normal Daddy and the jazz doesn't turn me on at all. Is Photek's other stuff along similar lines and does he have any albums out worth investigating? I've heard of the Hidden Camera ep but was wondering if there's going to be a full length in the near future. Tim Those who set out to serve both God and Mammon soon find there is no God.

Check your record shops soon. US release date is 9. Sep. Tower is supposed to have a copy of the full-length _Modus Operandi_ CD on hold for me. As for his other material, it becomes a bit of an expensive proposition at $10 per 12" -- IF you can find them. Can't go too far wrong, though. I also found a Sentinel 12" (same guy) which was diva-oriented drum'n'bass that didn't do much for me. The PTK ("Photek") EPs under the name Studio Pressure are worth the trouble and expense. Also look into Source Direct, particularly "2 Masks" / "Black Domina" -- especially since you like the last Photek single so much. Those records have much in common. I have an extra 12" for trade, incidentally... --Mark

It's out now, but Caroline's dropped the ball on distribution. If you call around to a bunch of shops you should be able to find a copy. If you like "The Hidden Camera" and "Ni-Ten-Ichi-Ryu" this record is essential.

Source Direct comes to mind immediately - there's a singles collection (not unlike Photek's 'Risc vs Reward') called 'Controlled Developments' coming out on Astralwerks before the end of the year. i checked out the realaudio at m.dos http://mdos.at and was transixed by 'part 3', so i picked up the cd as soon as possible after that. there's nothing else on there that gets me in the same way yet, but for those eleven and a bit minutes (nearly a third of the total cd btw) of the most terrible and beautiful, distortion bleeding noise, its almost overwhelming. the rest is pretty much made up of an occasionally piercing high pitched seemingly random assault, that is at least bracing. is this a recommendation? -martin --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

As far as I know, Speedy J has NEVER had a formal US release. But he's got a US album coming out on April, 18th on Mute called A Shocking Hobby. I don't really know too much about this artist...the only experience I've had with him as been on compilations, but I understand that he has been very influential. In that case, why has he never put out a US LP? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

What about all his release on +8/Intellinet as well the ones on NovaMute? Those were all 'formal' releases in the US dating way back to almost 10 years ago (1991). -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

and while you're at it, someone explain why there seemed to be two issues of "Ginger" in the US. . .for example, mine doesn't have the Radical logo, but i've seen the ones that do. ------------ 1642 try 621 ------------ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

None for track listing. Though the Warp release being from the UK has better acetate and lacquer for the vinyl version and apparently sounds a great deal better. Will Simmons, if you are just getting into the sounds of Speedy J then be wary that this is one of the most creative techno/ electronic producers around and he has some seminal releases on the mid-90s. He has been involved with Plus 8 Records (US), Probe (US), NovaMute (UK), Mute (US), Beam Me Up! (Nl) and Warp Records (UK). For more information check out www.speedyj.org And yes, he does believe that there is a phenomenon called intelligent music, especially since he was involved with the first Artificial Intelligence series. Oh and BTW, I forgot to include Fax records (Germany) in that excellent Vrs-mbnt-pcs series he released as his own name Jochem Paap last year.
