I was in New York last weekend, visiting friends.
One of my high school friends works for Sire Records and I was on the
elevator leaving her office. On the floor below hers who should hop on the
elevator but Tricky himself and a mate of his. I am very shy, so I didn't
say a word, but he started making conversation: asking me what I did and
why I was in the building. I told him about clock wise records and gave
him my latest release which he seemed very enthusuastic about getting. He
was very friendly and even giggly, very unlike the Tricky I hear about in
the press all the time. When we said good by, he and his friend started
running around union square like two excited children in an amusement park.
The odd thing is, last spring my roommate J. Stroke encountered him at a
club in Atlanta where it was rumored he was going to play and Tricky was a
total ass to him. Telling him off for having the gall to approach him.
Oh well, people are weird...especially rock stars ;)
