got the matador version of 'music has the right...' today and i'm thankful for the extra track but... they did indeed put the braille sticker on the outside of the shrinkwrap. i totally don't understand this. i i guess it could be cheaper from a production standpoint to put the stickers on after the discs have gone thru the assembly line production. they used a much lighter weight paper to print the artwork. this is not a big deal, but some people do appreciate nice quality printing and design. at least they preserved the matt texture. is there some technical reason i don't understand that forces them to put bonus tracks all the way at the end of the disc. it would make much more sense to put the extra track before 'one very important thought.' this just seems like lazy disregard for an artists obviously intentional track sequencing. the best i can figure, they think people will notice the bonus track readily if it's tacked on at the end. of course, they could have put a sticker about that on the front instead of wasting the braille. ---------------------------------------------- D is for Desond thrown out of a sleigh ---------------------------------------------- bruce levenstein bruceLev@mindspring.com ----------------------------------------------

or, taken another way: these are all minor points that describe the larger issue of warp's slutting around with majors and putting creative control on the back burner. i haven't heard the release in question, but the original poster is definitely raising issues of quality that aren't exhibited in the original pressings. this "like it or lump it" attitude doesn't address these questions at all; questions that i think are quite valid in light of warp's licensing history. eric

Disagree. If they put the bonus track in the middle of the album _that_ would be screwing with the artist's "obviously intentional track sequencing" The bonus track is not part of the original album and so it rightly belongs somewhere seperate from the main flow. i.e. at the end. LatersAndrewC.

Or, perhaps a better idea would have been to leave it off the album completely and release it (along with the rest of the Peel Sessions) as a single proper. One thing I'm getting tired of is making the effort to find and buy an import-only release, only to have it a) picked up by a domestic (USA) label (not entirely bad, but usually a couple months behind the original release) or b) picked up with added tracks, but so much later, everyone that wanted the album has probably picked it up by now, so they've got to double-dip to get these "exclusive tracks". If you're going to add tracks so that domestic buyers will buy it rather than the import, you should release it at the same time, or at least give notice. And I don't mean notice like Nothing has given -- what was it, two years for the plug album to come out, with a different tracklisting and such? Come on! And how long has the Plaid release been on hold... But hey, they've got the new Marilyn Manson album coming out. :( -sml

The bonus track on the Matador version was announced in July. Check the archives if you don't believe it. C. -- Chris.Hilker (cspot@hyperreal.org)

True. But when the BoC LP was released, there was nothing at all about a domestic label picking it up. Only after a couple months (the LP came out in March I believe) do you even hear of it coming out, and a couple months after that does it actually reach the stores. You can say that if you're interested in a release, a couple bucks doesn't matter. True, but not everyone is a typical spotter to just go pick it up regardless of price. Many people just aren't willing to pay import prices. Maybe I'm just bitter about Nothing and its vaporware schedules. I waited, then heard nothing was happening and picked up the releases myself. I'm glad the BoC is getting released domestically. But all you need to do is look at the Ninjas for what I mean -- releases in parallel, no "exclusive" tracks across the pond, etc. Wasn't there some noise about Warp setting up shop in the US? That'd probably solve all the problems I addressed. -sml
