Everybody out there should check out Simulant's brain-blowing new 12" on their own Scopex label, "Out of Ether", a follow-up to their debut "Simm City" which came out like two years ago. If all their 12"s are this good I should hope we don't have to wait two years for the next one. This label seems primed to be another fairly obscure but fanatically collected UK label (ala A.R.T., Likemind, Black Dog, Void, B12) but let's hope enough people check it out so they really get some publicity now. This record is mainly an electro-techno record, but is really the next step beyond Drexciya and UR which in itself was the next step beyond Kraftwerk. It's so hard to be good at electro (i.e. beyond one-shot novelty listen) but when you do it right, you're golden. I got as excited hearing this record yesterday as I did when I first heard the Molecular Enhancement 12". Lots of development, funk, beautiful Dog-esque melody lines and certainly something to hook, contain and accomodate most tastes. Check it out! I second that motion. Two outstanding Electro releases. Beautiful stuff, definitely check them out if you can. I don't personally hear any resemblance what-so-ever to B-12 or Black Dog, two outfits I don't have much patience for. The 'melodies' never get saccharine like with B-12, and the beats never get 'chemical brothers' like w/ dog. Simulant's stuff is quite a bit moodier, and subtler, the way few Electro cuts manage to be; both sparse and full at the same time. Very funky as well- sounds kind of like an older sadder R2-D2, with one foot in the 70's, and the other in, well, a galaxy far far away. Just throwing another log on the fire, Christophe AeOtaku@aol.com wrote:
