I've seen a Sony Playstation OST to "Ghost In The Shell". I saw Ken Ishi's name somewhere on it. The movie is very good but what about the soundtrack to the Playstation game? Has anybody else checked it out? Any reviews? Thanks C H R I S "Yes! WE will kick some butt on those Rolling Stones. How very thin they are. I was reading an interview with Derrick May recently and he was claiming to have done loads of the music for this - but that it would only be available in Japan

There are three different versions of the Sony-Japan Ghost in the Shell soundtrack: a CD, ltd ed 2xCD and a ltd ed 2x12" many of which have different versions of the new Derrick May track. I have the 2xCD and the 2x12" at home. I'll review these new tracks when i return from seattle on wednesday. I may even play one or more of those new Derrick May tracks during next week's Inaudible.

Hi, I just re-subbed onto idm-digest after a three-week break. I was in Tokyo, and saw the Ghost in the Shell soundtrack CD, either from the movie or the PSX game. This was released last year, I think. Could someone (Lance?) send me a review of the CD? Tokyo was still a great city as far as record shopping goes. I managed to pick up: - Chem/DustBros 12" on Junior Boys Own, with 2 Sabres of Paradise remixes of the oldie Song to the Siren. - Baird Remo (aka Plaid?) 12" on Ifach. My old copy skipped a bit, so I was happy to find this. - An old B12 12", can't remember what the number is. - Underworld bootleg CD from the Reading festival, with an amazing version of Rez. Also I was psyched to find out Rei Harakami was playing live while I was there, only to discover that he was playing at a club in several-hours-away Osaka. :( Cheers, James Jung-Hoon Seo // Oracle Tools Fundamental Technologies Group (650) 506-3829 // jseo@us.oracle.com Endless cuts / Paid in nuts

There are actually three versions of the Ghost In the Shell comp. There are ultra-limited 2xCD and 2xLP - both of which have exclusive tracks. Then there is the non-limited single cd. The review below is of the 2xCD. Enjoy! The following review is from Recoreviews, pt 11, originally posted 8/6/97. . Ghost in the Shell: v/a 2xCD (Sony-Japan) This is the techno soundtrack to the Japanese Sony Playstation game/anime movie "Ghost in the Shell." But, for the most part, this isn't your typical comp cheesy video game tracks. This comp contains new/ previously unreleased tracks from the likes of Claude Young, Derrick May, The Advent Joey Beltram, Dave Angel, and Scan X among others. I was luck enough to get the limited-edition 2xCD which doubled the number of unreleased material for my listening pleasure. Highlights are Claude's two Brother From Another Planet tracks which sound like vintage claude; the two May tracks which sound like a mix of Icon and The Beginning; both Advent tracks, one hard techno pounder the other a mid-tempo groover; and the Takkyu Ishino millsian groover. With 21 tracks in all there are bound to be a few filler tracks like the CJ Bolland, Hardfloor and Westbam tracks but the un- released gems from the big guns makes this comp well worth the purchase. This is supposedly another one of those Japan-only releases so it's time to get on the phone to the orient. 9/10

That is a real disappointment. Rei Harakami's recent album on Sublime called Unrest will be one of my top 10 releases on 1998. I'm sure seeing him live would be almost as amazing as the album! -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states
