John Tejada - Too Bad The Scene Is Dead (Palette) I see John Tejada mentioned alot in Lance's reviews, but foolishly passed over him, like I do alot of things. No more. This is a damn fine EP, and for those short on cash, this one is domestic, too. :) Because of this 12, I called up John C.@ BentCrayon and ordered the other 5 or so releases by Mr. Tejada on Palette. If they are half as good as this one is, it'll be money well spent. To the music. Bottom Side. If I Were To Be You I'm not a huge fan of the 4/4, but I AM a huge fan of emotion, and while the beat on this track doesn't do it for me, the synth work and the bass make up for it. Memories In The Shadow Sorry, like I said, I'm not a big 4/4 fan, and this track just doesn't do it for me. Top Side. Too Bad The Scene Is Dead This track starts with a hypnotic synth loop, followed closely by a kick drum, and builds into a 4/4 Detroit track, repetitive, but just incredibly so. I'm not big into Detroit, (lack of money, not enthusiasm), but I think that might start to change, because this is just too good. Maybe I'm going backwards, but this reminds me of early Black Dog, and still isn't the best track on this EP. Flashing Lights & Lazerbeams This track is just beyond words for me. It is an absolutely gorgeous piece of music, full of emotion. Opening with a warm synth loop, it breaks into hip-hop territory, and then gets deeper with the whirring bass. This mixes nicely alongside the Jeswa EP on Schematic (Pet of The Month), and I'm really anticipating using it as a transition from hip-hop to more IDM-type of stuff on a tape I'm gonna make soon. Fucking wonderful stuff. .jeff / chris. .do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. \-. you may both be wrong .-/

That will teach you to ignore the info in my reviews! : ) John Tejada also has some excellent records on the Ferox, Generations, Multiplex, A13, Organised Noise, Plug Research and 7th City labels.
