Not sure what the S&M bros are doing these days. The last thing I heard from them was a rather glorious remix of Wolfgang Press and their Sucker single. It's on the Queer album, or some versions of the CD, from a few years back. For IDM fans, the compilation with dubby tracks like Nation and Baby I Love You So might also be interesting. Then there's the World Cup theme song... and Fast Cut... and Breakdown... and Punch the 12" version... and Hot Doggie... ...and that's the last we shall hear of them, sadly. Apparently one of the brothers is now pushing up the daisies. 3

TMC were a supergroup (of the 4ad artist repertoire) formed by the 4AD label head Ivo, who has since done a similar project under the name "The Hope Blister". I haven't heard the stuff done under that name so I can't comment on it but I have all the TMC discs and they are great. As side note "Tarantula" is a cover of an original done by 4AD artists Colourbox who really were ahead of their time (sampling and musically wise) with two great cd's both titled "Colourbox" and numerous 12"s. Ironically their biggest hit was as half of MARRS (along with 2 guy's from the original AR Kane) with "Pump Up The Volume" still a monster track today!! Though for my money their 1986 World Cup soccer Theme and their cover of URoy's "Baby I Love You So" will always be some of my all-time favourites. Interestingly enough I once read an interview with Paul Oakenfold where they asked him his top 10 tunes of all time he mentioned Colourbox's "Baby I love You So"!! It's nothing like his music, but I respect the man a little after seeing he does have such GOOD taste. ;) Anyhow the last I heard about them was that one of the brothers had passed on and the band was no more!? Can anyone verify this and if this is so, has the other brother continued making music and if so under what name? Lance? Yeh man Colourbox were the business, 4AD too yeh? The best EP (from what I can remember) had a picture of two horses shagging on the front, what was that? The World Cup theme was brilliant too, with the picture of Jimmy Hill on the front. I dont know where they are now either. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Well count me among the small litter of Colourbox fans... their sampling and programming was indeed a bit ahead of (and gloriously behind with their classic songwriting techniques) of the times, and that cover of Baby I Love You So is one of those songs that will never leave your head, ever... their singles were all over the map, which made for interesting but sometimes frustrating listening... but their LP was a classic... sort of a modern day interpretation of a Phil Spector record, and only slightly dated sounding now due to the 80's leaden percussion... I think the brothers names were Steven and Martyn Young and I have wondered what happened to them as well... all I've found is this little snippet from some site or another;

Colourbox was a Beautiful Thing. Funky explorations into electronic dub. Don't forget that these cats were the "M" and "S" of M/A/R/R/S, of "Pump Up the Volume" infamy. Also part of the 4AD orgy of creative arts, involved in other projects like This Mortal Coil, Wolfgang Press, and so on. If I recall, one of the brothers died a few years back. Anyone have details? 3 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

My fave was the s/t record with "Edit The Dragon" and the remix of "Arena" on it. The first was ahead of its time and the latter is pop bliss. The two guys went on to do the M.A.R.R.S. thing (Pump Up The Volume) in the 90s and one of them has since passed away. jeff Dominick Winters wrote:
