Well, Mark Bell was busy producing Bjork's 'Homogenic' for a while (IMHO it's a much better album than 'Advance'). Apparently there will be further LFO releases on Warp (including a track on WAP100?), but Jez Varley is no longer involved. He only contributed to one or two tracks on 'Advance' anyway. Then there's all those side-projects that Lance can tell us about. :) C. -- Chris.Hilker (cspot@hyperreal.org) "Never really been too happy, never really been too sad And he doesn't know what he wanted, and he doesn't know what he had"

Good call Chris. : ) Mark Bell has been busy as hell with many other projects aside from his LFO guise. He records as Speedjack for R&S, as Fawn for NovaMute, as Counterpoint for Synewave, as Clark for Planet E, as Dual Race for his own Syncopate label, and most recently as Blakdoktor with Doc Martin on the Shaboom label. As mentioned by Chris, Mark has also produced Bjork's most recent lp and, i've heard that, either U2 or Rolling Stones (i forget which one) have also expressed interest in Bell producing their next album. Bell has also done a slew of remixes for Bjork, Hardfloor, and Advent to name a few. The other half of LFO, Jez Varley, has also been producing material. He records as Tony Montana for the Studio K7! label, and as G-Man for Swim & the G labels. Jez has also done a bunch of remixes for DJ Fallovie, Tomoki, Malka Spigel, Immersion, Atomiser, and Aural Expansion to name a few. Neither artist is producing much armchair electronica as of late. But both are producing some excellent minimal techno and tech-house. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Well, Mark Bell released a little album called "Homogenic" not too long ago. It's got Bjork on vocals, too. Pretty nice music. - wells oliver / s0ewoliv@titan.vcu.edu

Jez Varley is now doing g-man; "quo vardis" was a big hit with a Chain Reaction/Detroit minimal flavor to it; released on ~swim in 1995 I believe. Supposed Colin Newman and Malka Spiegel asked Jez to spin off the g-man stuff into a ~swim sub-label; again, more minimal sounding stuff but it does sound good and IDM-ish. Mark Bell was responsible for Clark on Planet E from 1995 or 1996; he also did 2 solo EPs on R&S, and that's all I am aware of. I still think LFO's best work was from 1990-1992, but "advance" has its moments. +odd -- Todd Sines film * audio * design http://www.corefilm.com
