Spent the afternoon listening to some of
the new and classic records i got this week.
Here are some quick first impressions:
............................................................................
...........................
. Moodymann: Mahogany Brown 2x12" (Peacefrog)
Fabulous stuff. More top of the line house from KDJ.
. Moodymann: The Dancer 12" (After Midnight)
An older release with a storming remix of The Dancer by DJ Tonka.
. Moodymann: I Can't Kick This Feelin' When It Hits 12" (After Midnight)
Another older release with a great Sensurreal remix of I Can't Kick...
plus a cool unreleased remix of Music People.
. Further Adventures in Technosoul comp 2x12" (Ferox)
An excellent comp of funky, jazzy tech-house but it's not quite as
impressive as the first Ferox comp. I noticed that the 2x12" has
four fewer tracks than the cd so you'll have to find that ltd Ferox
sampler 12" from a few months ago to get all the tracks on vinyl.
A worthwhile purchase.
. John Tejada: The Scene's Just Not What It Used to Be 12" (Palette)
A little more techno sounding than previous Palette records.
. Theorem: Shift 12" (M_NUS)
Stunning deep detroit techno with a bc flavor.
. Blakdoktor: Heaven In Your Eyes 12" (Shaboom)
Excellent deep tech-house from Mark Bell and Doc Martin. The
first record i've liked on shaboom.
. Bandulu: New Foundations 12" (Foundation)
An unsuccessful attempt at mixing classic dub raggae and techno.
Probably the worst Foundation 12" i've heard.
Ben Long: Pot002 12" (Potential)
Nice hard banging techno in the same vein as the recent Space DJZ.
. Jamie Anderson: Gangsta Boogie rmxs 12" (Artform)
A very nice atmostpheric techno release with nice remixes by sterac and
a few others. fans of sterac, envoy or percy x/mion take note.
. Thomas Koner: Kaamos cd (Mille Plateaux)
Sublimely deep bc-styled ambience and ambience.
. Cari Lekebusch: Reverted 12" (Hybrid)
A very good combo of techno and dub effects. Probably my favorite
Lekebusch release in some time.
. Daft Punk: Around The World/MAW Mixes 2x12" (Virgin)
An excellent set of funky remixes by Masters at Work. All are mid-tempo
in speed but very engaging.

As you can see i did a fair share of listening today.
Keep in mind that the above notes are only first
impressions. Expect full reviews in the near future.
