I caught the new Madonna video for "Frozen" on MTV last night, and it turns out to be directed by Chris Cunningham, the dude who did "Come to Daddy". The new video is nowhere as great as the Aphex one, but it's got some nice shots and effects, esp. the dissolves from Madonna into various creatures. Although, based on the three videos of his (Autechre, Aphex, Madonna) that I've seen, I'm beginning to think the man knows exactly one single color palette. Random tidbit: I just read about some movie named "Black Dog" - starring Patrick Swayze and (of all people) Meatloaf. I wonder if Ken would be interested in doing some soundtrack work... I think High Llamas are the main proginetors of the post-Beach Boys sound. I saw them open up for Stereolab last November and it sounded like Brian Wilson had escaped from whatever home he is in and was playing on stage. By the way, it was good! Check out the issue of Option magazine with Stereolab on the cover (issue before last); it has an entire article on all these new Beach Boys/Bacharach/Gainsbourg bands; i.e., High Llamas, Supersticks, etc. Ironically the same issue has an article where a writer subjects Steve Reich and Phillip Glass to records by mu-Ziq, Orbital and others. The reaction was not good! At 11:59 PM +1300 2/18/98, Space Cadet wrote:

Yeah, and then he could do the music for a commercial about "Black Dog" beer... (It's a microbrew in the U.S. for those who have no idea what I'm talking about.) ;-)
