does anyone know of a mix of a david holmes track by arab strap - off 'lets get killed' i guess - came out a few months ago probably (i'm on the bleeding edge as usual) - heard it on the radio - it might be 'don't die just yet' or 'gritty shaker' ... features a kindof rolling piano loop and a scottish geezer telling a story over the top, with lush strings coming in after a bit (*perhaps* the serge gainsbourg (sp?) strings off 'don't die just yet') ... i *think* its arab strap - anyone know on what, and when, it came out? ta. dan. ---+ dan hill mailto:dan@state51.co.uk 91 brick lane, london e1 6qn ---+ the specialist record shop finder: http://www.state51.co.uk/motion/services/ +---

They're all on CD for £1.99 (at least in Peterborough) each. CD1 ('digipack'): 1.Radio edit, 2.Don't chant just yet, 3.The Holiday Girl (Don't die just yet), 4.Delakota mix, 5.Mogwai mix, CD2 (jewel case): 1.album version, 2.max404's Optimystic Disco Dub, 3.La Funk Mob mix. Agreed, tyhe max 404 and La Funk Mob mixes aren't brilliant, just OK, but then I've never thought that the album version was that hot either (much prefer Portishead's take on the same track on their Massive Attack remix), and the same goes fro Don't Chant... (just an alternative take on the album version). But the other mixes are much better. The Holiday Girl (remix by Arab strap) is my favourite, even if it is really just their own song using a couple of samples from Don't Die.... The Delakota mix is top moody stuff (well they're all rather moody actually) with really neat spoken samples. The Mogwai mix is good too, in a 'not dance music at all' kind of way. <<<
