Has anyone heard any of the three 1-sided Ganger remix 12"s on Soulstaticsound? I know Underdog did one mix, Two Lone Swordsmen another, and one more by someone called "D" (?). Are any of them worth the $9 for a single track? relentlessly, phil

I have the two lone swordsman remix of this ganger track. And yes it is worth it for one song. Bascially it takes tls's notions of odd sounds, ambience and melodies and applies it to ganger. Very good. One thing I found quite entertaining about it is that the drums sound "real" instead of machine generated. One of tls's better remixes. The etching on the other side is odd cause it kinda plays. Also, note this is supposedly limited to a 500 release pressing <in fact each remix is limited to 500>. -dan

Ganger are sometimes great, sometimes somewhat misguided, Scottish exponents of Tortoise/Ui (amongst others) style minimal post rock. Some records I've heard have been a total trip for the entire duration, some just don't grab me at all. People often point a 'krautrock' finger in these band's direction but the last time I was in Germany I heard a good few positive mentions about Ganger - so they must be doing something right :) They recently got a new rhythm section (courtesy Les Tinglies) I believe and the most recent stuff I've heard (I don't know if it's out, I was lucky enough to hear it in the studio where they recorded it in Edinburgh) was definitely a step in the right direction.
