one of my favorite topics, and I'm sure some asshole will say this thread is off topic but they can deal with it. i love to make music more than anything. and i wouldn't be doing it without "wynona".... my roland jp-8000. i love her so dearly. I really can't say anything bad about her, ther is a lack of sequwncer, but there's only two midi channels anyways, and computer sequencers are 100 times easier to use. She has plenty of onboard storage for patches, and roland has released a nice program for uploading and downloading patches to it via midi, so that's no problem. I can get some of the most beautiful analog sounds out of her, as well as smoosth pads, and some crazy ass noises. i really do feel that it kicks the shit out of any juno 106, cs2x, mks, jx-305, on the market. it can make those 303 sounds too. the only thing that competes in my opinion is the sh-101. but that's because i like old analog sounds with white noise and lots of release. i think the great thing about the jp is that all of the controls are right there in your face and ready. nothing is hidden. and the arpeggiator is lush. it's great for lots of stuff. i think everyone should stop with the juno shit, that thing sucks. but my opinion is just that, my opinion. And there are a lot of old fart prog rockers hanging around there ... You can't record Rebirth SOUND into it. However, I think there is a program you can get that takes your 909 and 808 patterns on rebirth and converts them to MIDI files. It's almost pointless cause the 909 and 808 patterns are pretty easy to make anyway, maybe the software can convert alot at once or something. then you can dump those files into the MMT and use them to trigger drum samples. Another thing you can do is switch patterns in rebirth using MIDI messages, which can be programmed onto you MMT-8. If you have more q's about it I'm happy to answer. How's that CZ?? Any of that FM or Phase Distortion stuff is really interesting to me. Any sounds on the CZ that change over time? like phase sweeping or weird stuff like that? I've heard of some sequencers that can totally destroy the MMT (or so they say). The Kawai q-80ex is like 250 or something used, but has a disk drive AND 32 muteable channels!! yeah, thats interesting...i downloaded that program (the one that converts rebirth to midi)..but unfortunately its in german or some other foreign language so i dont know whats happening...i see what youre saying about the syncing reb. to the sequencer..but carrying around a computer to play live is a mission..oh well.. about the cz...its great..for such a cheap price it really delivers...the sounds are really warm, and the basses are PHAT..(it drops nasty style)....the great thing about it is the 8 step envelope..gives you alot of control ....the alesis doesnt have a drum machine in it does it?

Fuck, equipment. I have a korg N5 that I use as a midi comtroller and an Akai s2000 which I use for everything else. My computer is an old Power Computing mac clone from the early 90s. I run cubase on it but I can't do much real time processing. All this talk about outboard gear and name dropping makes me curious. I have been studing electronic music and acoustics for quite a while now and the one major realization I had is that a computer can do _everything_ for you (at least theoretically). The only problem is the shitty physical interfaces, such as roman character keyboards, mice, trackballs, tiny buttons. I think the dream setup for me would be entirely software based with nothing but knobs, faders and midi instruments atached to the computer. Currently I'm programing some stuff in Csound (I'd upgrade to jMax but my machine is too slow). Speaking of which, poking around Native Instrument's site (http://www.native-instruments.de) led me to this page: http://members.aol.com/uwekeinki/index.html Does anyone know if this "10 Control" available yet, or even what it would cost? Will the LCD show parameters modulated in REAKTOR? This looks like ULTIMATE solution to the hardware/software synthesizer dilemma for computers of more upscale speed.
