can anyone tell me about a label called DRC? i've just gotten a promo of a 12-inch on this label called "7 hills clash," featuring remixes by autechre and robert gordon's forgemasters, as well as a new rac track. it appears to be the label's first release (although the one-sheet says the rac track is from a forthcoming full-length). i'd like to review this but i need some context... thanks! sc onnow: arvo part : tabula rasa (ecm)

Sounds like an interesting remix single. I've got a compilation called "7 Hills Clash: Deeper Signals" with a catalogue # DRC 1. It's a pretty tasty collection of tracks from the Sheffield labels Earth, Wholesome, 10 Denk, and Breakbutt; the back cover also says that there is another comp called "7 Hills Clash Signals from the Sheffield Underground" (DON 1). The music is drum and bass but not as uh annoying (in a good way!) as the fungle stuff or as commercial as all the rest. Lots of wacky sounds and colour and a lot of fun, I guess you could say. I would say that the music there is closer to the original jungle approach, if my knowledge of that wasn't limited to one or two compilations (eg. DJs Unite vol.3 - which isn't bad either). Anyone else have an opinion on this? More to the point, can anyone ID the artists? I'm sure DJ Parrot of Sweet Exorcist fame is present - Earth is supposed to be his label - but his name doesn't appear on the credits, many of which look like pseudonyms (eg. Screwface, Moonstomp, Rudolf Rude Nose etc.) -- Chris Tourgelis
