Just wanted to let you know that my friend has an FS1r. While He likes the
sounds that come with it, He really has a hard time programming it. I would
have to agree as well about programming on it. I have sat stupefied with
manual in hand, trying to figure out which knob is going to affect which
parameter or how the hell to get around the sound engine. It's not that FM
programming is that hard (once you understand it) and I have owned both a
DX7 and a TX81z. The FS1r is entirely to complex. Over kill in many respects
(16 operators?!!). I could see it working if the knobs where directly under
the screen and the screen it's self was twice as large with way more
information on it at one time. I'm actually of the opinion that more
operators does not equal better sounds. That's evident in the FS1r's
presets. It really doesn't sound that much more complex than a DX7... Or
even a TX81z. There is a certain 'Vocal" quality to the sounds due to the
Formant operators, but I'm not really fond of that sound to begin with. I
recommend a TX81z/DX11 over the FS1r. The individual operators (4op) have
selectable waveforms that add a new dimension to FM.
Cheers,

Subject: (idm) yamaha fs1r
Thanks to all that helped me with the yamaha dx9
issue. It seems after checking out sonicstate.com
(great place, whoever refer'd me there!) The sound
mod. that seems to be jumping in front of me is the
fs1r, seems for the money that is the best way togo.
My only problem is finding one... Anyone have a site
that might poss. have one in stock and not asking an
arm and a leg? Thanks
M
