I need some info on Shadow Rec. Where is this label from ? I know for example that Instinct Electronica released this album: Jimpster - Martian Arts CD (Shadow) Is it true that Shadow rereleased it, or did Instinct Elec. release it ? The same thing with Funki Porcini, they are, I suppose originally released on Ninja Tune, and what about this one ? Funki Porcini - Love, Pussycats, and Carwrecks CD (Shadow) Can someone clear this up for me, please respect Rob

as for this (and Hed Phone Sex), I think that Shadow was simply releasing Ninja Tune stuff (check the recent post of the Shadow discography... lots of Ninja material in there) in the US. Now there's Ninja Tune USA and they release it domestically for us... guess i could be wrong, but it sure sounds good... you are correct, sir! in fact i guess shadow was expecting to expand with the ninja stuff because they actually started releasing ninja stuff under the label (sublabel, or whatever) ninja tune usa. then the ninjas decided to take over the country and thwarted shadow's master plan. it was a good plan, though, if the ninjas weren't going to come over on their own. refried food came out on shadow because ninja tune still owed then an album, and that's what they gave shadow. now if only the ninjas would rerelease the jazz breaks discs domestically... alan!

Okay. Shadow = Instinct Same label.... setup originally for different genres, but Instinct Electronica is mooching from both. Jimpster put out a series of 12" singles for Freerange (UK), which were recently compiled as an album for Instinct Electronica (USA). The album was not reissued by Shadow. That simply wouldn't happen, because they're the both label. Aaron np: Pantunes Music "In Search of Surface Noise" (Sprawl)

you are correct sir. Instinct licensed and released most major Ninja full lengths in '95 and 96'. That deal ended just over a year ago (post ZENCD24) when we started up a domestic office. They still retain the rights to what they released for a few more years so we currently can not reissue those titles. Ninjas

as we grow older we grow wiser... A lot has changed since we released those records and the looming beast of copyright infringement has become more of a reality. We have decided to delete the Jazz Brakes series as they were made at a time when these things didn't concern us as much. We will be compiling the best of the tracks which aren't sampled based or ones that we can clear the samples on into a Jazz Brakes collection (probably 2CD and 3 or 4LP set) to be released late next year. There will be a new DJ Food release late next year also. Just for the record, as Coldcut now have there name back, DJ Food for recording and DJ'ing purpose is now Strictly Kev and P.C. Although brothers Cold and Cut will no doubt be dropping by the studio. Ninjas
