Considering that Lunatic Harness is arguably one of the best releases of the year, Mike is certainly a well rounded individual. And Urmur Bile tracks has it's moments, came out as a domestic in the US, so quit yer bitchin ;-) --------------------------------------------------------------------- "Psyche manifests as psychic through something we call 'winding', because it twists, and puts things that were far apart next to each other, complicatedly, taffywise." -- winona on channel 78 Kent Williams kent@inav.net -- http://soli.inav.net/~kent

Even worse then the spice girls? Thats pretty funny Wells, I though it was just ok, with a few quite nice tracks like 'the hornet'. I could name about 999 records that suck a hell of a lot worse... word out, brock out. np: Cylob - 'diof 97'

Posts like those should be done through private e-mail if at all. It gets rather tiresome to read "fuck you" "fuck that" "fucks sake" posts on public lists. It's one thing to post you like or dislike something but "fuck you" flames and similar crap don't need to be in hundreds of people's mailboxes. More often than not people say "fuck you" because they can't think of anything intelligent to say. Post something a little more thought out and interesting, as this is supposedly the I(intelligent)DM list.

You know I don't know why people hate this EP so much. While I would agree that Umur is one of Mike's weaker over-all efforts it does contains some of my fave u-ziq tracks, "Let Let" and the Phi 1700 remix. I mean, who would've thought that you could use an Ornette Coleman and Jean-Jaques Perrey samples in a drum n' bass tune and have it work so well ("Let Let")? And I think that the Phi remix really grows and develops over it's 10 minutes. Howie

Yeah, it's 1 Hip 007 or somehing like that. One thing I'm curious about is why you think Umur is trash. I'm not out to flame you or anything. Just want some specifics about from a different point of view. The combination of the Ornette & JJP samples just strikes some emotional chord in me that makes go "Wow." I suppose the EP has the opposite effect on you? Howie

the whole EP sounds really empty to me, like Mike just threw it together to get something out to keep up w/ richard in the DNB category. it doesn't feel deep or meaningful or even well-done. the programming is sloppy... it just really strikes me as an empty release. but, like i said, lunatic harness is great so i'll forgive him. - wells oliver / s0ewoliv@titan.vcu.edu " when our worlds they fall apart when the walls come tumbling in though we may deserve it it will be worth it."

i thought that an 'opinion' on ubt was exactly what was being offered. this list doesn't exist for the purpose of eulogising everyones favourite artists (does it?). the poster offered a review (albeit a primitive one) of an album which i personally find unlistenable, although I enjoy pretty much every other MP release. Maybe some people like it, but it's worth informing people that this is a listen before you buy effort, plur mike

someone wrote previously something along the lines of this: urmur bile's the worst album of the year....blah blah blah.....etc. while I certainly didn't think that urmur bile trax was his best work, i wouldn't put it down as the worst album. In fact, with the release of Lunatic Harness (which 80% of I love to death), I have been forced to kind of look back and re-evaluate the qualities of UBT, and I've decided that I like it better now than when I first bought it. Of course, like most releases, it has it's ups and downs. Even the mighty Ae have their ups and downs :) though, so it can't be worth panning it to the bottom for just a couple of poor tracks. fanning the flames of the u-ziq war..... np: my noisy damn air conditioner. _________________________________________________ Brian Rachielles- UC Santa Barbara (.b) Production Director KCSB fm 91.9 1997-98 Audio Program thurs 2-4am ambient-idm-noise web- http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Club/4980

hahahahahaha! So the Urmur Bile basher doesn't have the other volume? Classic! Here's the track listing, wells baby... Volume 2: The Hydrozone (6:18) 1 Hip 007* (12:53) Hornet (8:40) The Phonic Socks (7:07) ------ I rather like Volume 2 myself! So there! hahahahaha again! brock. np: Heads 2a.d1

I have to agree on this one. Really boring release. I only bought it to get somewhat of an impression on the DMX Krew stuff. The Bochum Welt remix is one of the worst remixes I've heard in a while. The one that goes up and down in tempo, i think it's the second remix of the Bochum Welt track, really really annoys me... -- Ben Coffer Hybrid Productions http://www.hybridgame.demon.co.uk/

As far as IDM releases go, I second that motion. What a waste of time and money! bEn Synaptic Records (Rick and Ben) 608 S. Broadway Denver, CO 80209 (303) 722-9428 (phone) (303) 722-9540 (fax) synaptic@eazy.net www.eazy.net/synaptic-records/

Hang on a tick. Sure nobody asked him to. Maybe his opinion was pretty extreme. But isn't this list a forum for people to express their "interest and opinion" on music? The original poster was well on topic and deserved a bit better than "FUCK YOU!" and "don't be a snob". Will people "never learn" what this list is about? :-) All I know is I've got an awful lot of Mike P stuff in my CD cabinet right now and it seems that the quicker he puts them out the less satisfying they become (obviously and redundantly IMO). Only so much creative energy to go around? Spreading himself too thinly? I don't know if I believe that theory. But Urmur et al add weight to it (IMO again for all those not watching). I haven't heard Lunatic Harness yet BTW. From the sounds of it I'm in for a treat (I liked Tango/Bluff/Pine). Q -- qforce@holon.net http://www.holon.net/qforce/

I picked up Urmer Bile Trax cd a little while ago and it was ok... not at all what I expected, so the surprise was nice... different though... next I picked up Tango & Vectif, which I enjoyed quite a bit, but it was alotogether TOO much like to many other items I had purchased beforehand (not that that particularly means that this came out later than what I refer to)... thus, it left something to be desired... Picked up Lunatic Harness yesterday and like it quite a bit, but leaves me with the same taste in my mouth as T&V... theres something overplayed running through it... still a great release, but I'm wishing that I'd saved my pennies and picked up certain items one of the world's greatest mailorders happened to mention today, or the Single of the Week, or the new Vibert, etc etc... I might catch a lot of flack for this but, IMO funkci porcini's 'let's see what carmen can do' is the worst of '97. I just feel let down after I listen to 'Hed Phone Sex' then listen to '...camen...". Well, maybe it's not THE worst but, I just got finished 'trying' to listen to it so, it's fresh in my mind. Anyone fill me in on how this compares to Love Pussycats & Carwrecks? I love this, but its all I've heard really (tho someday my Carwreck cd single may come in...) Yeah, hanging my head in shame for buying it... (LIKE a Tim) I thought it would be some thing that sounded close to the speedy j remixes.

i have the vinyl of the Carwreck EP and it is one of the best EPs that i have. all 4 songs are great. as far as how carmen compares... the carwreck EP is much better, but there is also some great stuff on carmen. it is worth having imo, for the $10 or so. .... grav
