... at the Borealis in Montpellier, France, last Saturday.
25,000 people were gathered for the occasion since there was also Slam,
Manu Le Malin, Laurent Garnier, The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Darren
Emerson, Andrew Weatherall, Miloch, Planetary Assault Systems,
Stephanovitch and plenty of other famous D.J.'s and live P.A.'s...
Autechre played about 6 or 7 tracks for 50 minutes. Most of them taken from
Chiastic Slide and Tri Repetae. Only one (I think) from Amber.
Each of the two guys had his set of racks, adding reverbs, twiddling knobs
and tweaking sounds here and there throughout the tunes...
It all sounded as if they didn't know themselves how the tracks were going
to end.
Definitely a lot of improvisation that added a little touch to their set
that the Chemical Brothers and Daft Punk didn't have, the latters relying
way too much on their sequencers which both fucked up during their sets,
leaving them stranded, not knowing how to get back on their feet.
To put it plainly, let's just say that Autechre had more... soul. :-)
