Speaking of releases that don't seem to get talked about, my favorite in the recent weeks next to the Gus Gus album has been the Death in Vegas album, Dead Elvis. It's got less bangin' hard stuff than I thought it might be, but it's got a nice mix of dirty guitars, reggae beats, strings, etc. DiV seem inspired by the Chemicals and Weatherall but end up sounding nothing like either of them. Just listening to the three singles lined up next to each other on the album - Dirt to Rocco to Rekkit - is a thrill. Great stuff. "Dead Elvis" is easily my favorite IDM release of the year thus far. "Opium Shuffle" would make Bentley Rhythm Ace proud. "GBH" is a slow reggae soiree. "Dirt", "Rocco", and "Rekkit" are Chemical Brothers rewrites, but they still sound great. The remaining tracks are ambient in nature. A worthwhile release for the open minded IDM'er. I like this release as well.. I've tried to hate it. I really have. It's just not the kind of thing I usually like.. but for some reason, I like this thing a lot. Rock influences + obtuse harmonization... -Sho
