I picked up the Disjecta CD today on Warp, and it's a winner. Nice mix of Autechre melodies, and Luke Slater intelligence. Get it. Trainspotter alert: Has anyone been able to translate the tiny Japanese writing on the cover of the booklet? It shows up in two places, both in the upper left, and lower right. Just listened to Disjecta "Clean Pit & Lid Pit" (Warp CD41). IMO, sounds very much like Aphex Twin:Selected Ambient Works, Vol.II. I'm not too sure where he's taking his Disjecta project, but it seems that he's really got the Aphex bug! I'm not saying that it's bad, but it's been done and I hope he gets back to doing more production with Seefeel. Just halfway through _looking for snags_ (which I found in a secondhand store this weekend ;-)) ... fantastic stuff, beautifully swirling in an Ae-SAWII manner. Is the full length (_clean ..._ or whatever) anything like this one ? dv8 (liking Jega too, eventhough it's only on tape) P.S. : the second track on Tetso Inoue's _organic cloud_ (FAX or what did you think) is great.

I picked this up the other day and I have to say that I love it. It is not quite as lounge-funky as someone, I cant remember who, said. The singing, IMHO, is not distracting because it is sort of soft and wishy-washy. One of my favorite tracks is #7 (cant remember the name). For me, this has the right blend of beats and atmosphere, not overpowering and not invisible either. I am not very good at writing reviews, but I do know what I like. Hess -/\= Hess M. Disjecta is Mark Clifford from Seefeel and the two releases on Warp have a kind of dark and scary feel. My favourite is 'Looking for snags'; it seems to fit together better than 'Clean pit & lid' and I do find it quite scary. I remember someone on this list told a story about falling asleep to LFS and remembering really fucked up dreams when he woke up (or was it me??? :-\) Disjecta has those repetitive tunes that can really get on your nerves if you are not familiar, but in fact create most of the mood of the track. I also find this the case for a lot of Seefeel. Artwork's also totally mad for both LFS and CP&L. Global Goon - 'Goon' is a mixed bag album with some crazy ideas in it. The first track has an odd rhythm and then a lovely melody, and then some bloke starts trying to sing out loud what sounds like a prospectus for a university or something. Other tracks have heart-meltingly smooth chords and tunes, which really are the high points of the album for me. Basically the album's a bit out of the ordinary IDM stuff and my opinion is that it's well worth getting. Later... -Ed

Twas me, as published in the letter column of "Future Music." Too bad FM edits all their letters to make the writers look like twits. Not that I'm not a twit, but .... Disjecta is a must. Disjecta makes buying really expensive headphones for the full effect; I recommend Grado SR125s ;-) Also Seefeel 'Succour' for more from the same crew -- I pulled that out yesterday and had forgotten how yummy it is. If you listen to Aphex Twin instead of Seefeel and Disjecta you are a phlegmatic person with obsessive compulsive tendencies. You are also likely to have crooked teeth and a flabby pelvic floor! Good, in the same IDM/noise camp that you might put Authechre, RDJ (at times), SPeedy J's recenlt LP, and D'Archangelo. More on the brooding, darker clonks and bangs that Ae occasionally delves into... The only knock I would have is that some people may construe this as Ae wannabe type material, (especially it being on Warp, having the funky DR design, etc), but if you like abstract, it's a good purchase. BTW, I find the Disjecta EP Looking for Snags to be more enjoyable. Also worth the $10/11. peace Nate On Mon, 11 Aug 1997, wells wrote:

If it's any help, I've got it on CD (no vari-speed there) so if you like, I can attempt to describe how fast certain tracks sound and you can work it out from there... I *

It's 33 - it's speeded up a lot on Blechsdottir - once you're used to that it is difficult to adjust. adam
