Mask 2 quasi-review:
just downloaded the entire mask 2 mp3s (all 25 mbs of it, would have been no
more than 3 in real audio). Anyway, I must applaud both skam and Musik Aus
Stromm. This baby burns. Much better than I expected, even with all the hype.
Definetly some of the better stuff I've listened to so far this year. So the
label says "appearing in no particular order - hellinterface funkstorung
intron bola jega" and hellinterface=boards of canada. Let the guessing game
begin:
1: pure beauty mixed with a fast breakbeaty rythym. Although this does not
sound like much of the other stuff I'm gonna say that this is hellinterface,
cuz a new name means a new angle on the music (unless your name happens to be
richard d. james, in which a new name means another in a list of dozens) And
the general feel of BoC is still there (I can't put my finger on it, it's
something though)
2: Ahh reminicent of the old Ae tri repate era, but with more of a musical
twist. There's only one person who could be responsible for this track. Yep
you guessed it, Jega.
3: noisey-ass track sounds like putting your ear up next to the train track
with a locomotive on it's way (advice to small children, and bigger ones, too:
DONT TRY THIS AT HOME, I am a "train"ed proffesional <-- big time chessey
joke in effect) Anyway "storung" is german for distortion. We know this baby
gots lots of that. It is, however, lacking funk, but one out of two ain't
bad: funkstorung
4: Now, I'm confused, cause this track sounds like it could be jega, also, or
BoC. But, to reduce the risk of my entire review falling apart, I'm gonna
have to go with Bola.
5. Creepy piano opening followed by dark strings and "ahhs". Excelent way to
end the disc. Process of elimination folks: Intron
Now I'm intriuged by this whole mask mystery. Anyone want to sell mask1 (or
2, for that matter)? I'll pay top $$. How about someone encodes mask1 in mp3
also? I've got to be sure to hunt down 3 if/when it comes out. Let's hear all
your guesses.
PS: Thanks to all who've been recording all the mp3/ra around here. I'm glad
to see this list finally taking advantage of the audio offerings of the net.
Looks like Gonzi, Grant, Sm@4thWorld, and myself struck a chord with our
offerings (all with the help of sfwd@sonic.net, of course- thanks). I'm
looking forward to hearing more from you all.
pps: anyone hear the plaid show?, I just found that thing:
http://www.abc.se/~m9550/plaid_live.html
how long has it been up? Looking forward to listening to that, too.
keep the encoding going,
mult.
