my quick little additive to the CD/Vinyl thread. i prefer CDs because i hate needles(but the sight of blood doesn't bother me...), and CDs double as a nice little mirror when you're trying to comb your hair in the morning and someone's using the bathroom. and not only that, you Vinyl "purists" will never have the oppurtunity to see the Speedy J. screen saver... if you're fascinated by the sight of rotating objects, buy a fan, tape a frisbee to it, and turn that sucker on. you'll be in wham-o heaven for days.. goofballs, chrisTiaN -- "People never touched one another. One comment about the turntables thread. Like a few other members of the IDM list, I often spin out ambient/IDMish sets. Well 9 times out of 10, when you go to a party, something usually dance-centric, the only equipment available is of the vinyl-reading variety. If you get 1 CD player, you are lucky. So one of the important reasons to have vinyl is so that electronic music can be spun out, along side of its dancier counterparts. There's also the issue concerning how much faster you can scan through a track on vinyl as opposed to plastic. I think it's important to have this music played in public so more people can hear and appreciate it. I know we weren't talking about whether records should not be produced anymore, but no one mentioned this aspect (don't think). And no, I don't think I can tell, nor can my speakers or stylus reveal frequencies over 22 kHz, but sometimes you can hear that nice compression on a record. And sometimes that squeeky-clean digital sound of a CD or DAT is jaw-dropping. __ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ gil yaker / orbital@hazmat.com

Boy you Cd-freakx are getting really desperate. Of course I'll see the Speedy J screensaver: someone will upload it somewhere. The question is, will you ever see side D of the Patterns Remix 2x12" with the intricate laser-etched design and a locked groove to boot? At 12:48 AM 8/7/97 -0500, you wrote:

...and they're great for jacking off too. Small-weinered digital dorks...ever roll a joint? I didna think soo, ye bloody wraiths! Tha're not listening to myoozic, tha're listening to demon androids chug voltages from bits that're NOT THERE! I donot see them. I see grooves. I can groove. Can I flip-flop betw two wildly opposing states? Erm, no.

I want a pinwheel ceiling fan. A really big one. Now that would be dope.
