This is simply untrue. I feel for you good people that got ganked, but the US Post Office does fuck up, and they do it all of the time. Now whether the USPS is actually losing your mail or stealing it is another story (my guess is most of the time it's just lost). MC

You guys should give the Chilean post office a try. I think myself extraordinarily lucky when and if I get any mail. I'm still waiting for packages from Australia and the US which I'm pretty damned sure were sent (people tend not send things again at their own cost if they're in it for the scam). Stop whining and think yourselves lucky.

I have to agree with Mark here. I've lost 4 pieces of mail (letters/packages) over the last year via USPS. The pieces of mail in question were all "Priority Mail." They do NOT trace items unless you insure them (and strangely enough, they never seem to get lost when I insure them ;-) so since it doesn't cost that much more, I insure ALL packages sent through USPS. I only use UPS on special occasions, so I cannot vouch for their personal service: However, I do use both UPS and FedEx (amongst others) at work and know that, even though they do a great job, they too screw up. Everyone is human... well, most people are. My recommendation is to control all elements that you can, since there are so many that you cannot. Hmm. A government-run protection racket? Stranger things have happened, I suppose. It rather reminds me of a Monty Python bit: "Mm, paratroops, Dino.
