finally glad someone said something intelligent (not meant to sound arrogant btw...) about the subject. i do listen to "industrial" music (not nearly as much as before though..), and "joined" this mailing list to get away from the pointless threads on the RMI. (and because i finally discovered the nifty/neato sound[s] of IDM) now, if reznor has his own mailing list, newsgroup, record label, and seems to be a constant topic of discussion in magazines, on the RMI, and now "here," you can't dismiss the effect his work has on electronic music. i think people just get jealous when they see a group working with musical techniques which are considered "underground." and, most importantly, manage to make it work, and available to the "mainstream" public. that's such an arrogant/ elitist outlook that would seem to harm the music industry. i doubt any (or at least most) groups purposely make music that has a "target" audience, which doesn't include the guy who's only record/cd shop is best buy, or tower records. and as for the whole sampling debate, i believe it was chris vrenna who went through 3000 hours of video tape (no picture, just the dialogue/sounds) to find samples for NIN. even though i didn't particularly care for The Downward Spiral, NIN/Reznor would be one of the last people i'd consider talentless. he's just a smart guy, who knows what the next "big thing" is going to be, and goes from there. but i doubt his next release is gonna be a d&b album. lyric wise, if the guy feels like shit 80% of the day, then let him sing about it. i think if he was trying to cater to the interests of others in that respect, he would've changed his lyrical content a long time ago. and finally, i don't think anyone was forced to buy the single. kind of pointless to buy a CD, and then bitch about it in 20 or so threads. and at the same time, writing it off as being a pretty good disk... rotterdam subway, chrisTiaN atom :the panacea disk is excellent -- " no prints, no marks, no tracks.
