Well apparently, George Lucas will be expecting us to take a drum n' bass remix of the Star Wars theme seriously... I never said you can't enjoy something that's laughable (esp. something that's meant as laughable, i.e. the hip hop Darth Vader thing), however I don't think what Lucas is proposing was meant as a joke. peace. People take Richard's R2D2 seriously, so why not a d+b version of Star Wars theme? :) -- .Mikko

excuse me, but why should you "expect" someone to take it "seriously" anyway? i thought music was for enjoyment - i'm not trying to be nasty, but it just seems a bit of a weird thing to say really.

Fuck Star Wars. I've had so much of it it makes me sick. Can't anyone think of a new idea? Anyone ever hear the Star Wars Electric Moog Orchestra album from 1977? What's the fucking difference between that and star wars d&b? Or the difference between star wars d&b and Sesame Street Fever or Pat Boone doing heavy metal? It's all just rehashing old shit in a new way to be gen-x ironic or something. Oooh, pop culture is so cool, man! Ooooh, the 70's/80's are so cool! It's so ironic! Irony is so coooool, man! It's like, you know, things which aren't really even interesting or any good at all can actually be cool if you're ironic about it, man. Schoolhouse rock and ernie and bert and star wars and dukes of hazard and grease and fonzie and super sugar crisp and charlies angels can all get together and have a big party in my ironic ass.

hah I recall you saying the same thing a long time ago when people were talking about the new star wars trilogy on here.. I reckon the difference between the electric moog album, if it's anything like the "electric hair" album (the music from the musical hair, performed by moogs) that it's a huge difference (actually this is being made for a movie, not just as an individual album) but me personally, I don't see how a drum'n'bass version of star wars will go with the movie's mood at all. It seems to me like it would ruin the novelty of it all. __ __\ \ / /_\ \ \_____/ , m7=

Star Wars is all about the battle between two groups: 1. those who value the spiritual over the technological (the rebels) 2. those who value the technological and physical over the spiritual (the empire). The message from the trilogy is that technology is bad and that the machines and the empire must be destroyed, that we should get back to basics, ie, that spirituality and technology are mutually exclusive. We IDMers on the other hand have already discovered that it is possible to have spirituality and technology working together. So if an IDM track were to appear it would be out of place. But maybe a bit of irony is what is needed. -- ____ ______ ____\ Q-Force mailto:qforce@graviton.levels.unisa.edu.au \_____ _____\ Visit http://graviton.levels.unisa.edu.au/~qforce/ \____

pop is all there really is to talk about. there's nothing going on except politics in serious culture, and if you try to talk about underground culture no one knows what you're on about. the beatles are more likely to be remembered from this century than phil glass or autechre. unfair maybe but that's the way it goes. plus, there's a lot of really great art/literature around that just consists of pop culture being manipulated into something entirely different, for example mark leyner. knowledge of it really helps. i agree about the whole ironic wishful thinking nostalgia deal that keeps happening. people seem to think that treating something worthless as though it had worth gives it some. it's just a trend, though, and it's part because nothing original seems to be happening. so: plunder the vaults. by 2005 there'll be 90's nostalgia.
