So tell me, which are the shit remixes? I don't have the money to track down every plaid/balil rmx...I wish Ken would get in on the rmx action more. I do have the money to track down all his stuff.

Sorry, but fsol and orbital are a lot of people's first intro to electronica. The chems, I agree don't belong here - they're fucking rocknroll disguised as techno - a trojan horse of the worst sort. Daft punk I've never heard, but I can tell from the list of who's hyping them that I wouldn't like them. Che

I'm not quite sure how to take that one. Sure, I've only been contributing here for about three years, but really, I honestly think they're a half-decent band worth checking out. They're production quality is simple, but really crisp, and the beats are so smooth. Only half of their album, "Homework," is actually any good..... HOWEVER, that one half is very special indeed. onnow: sharp scientific 12" (emocean) Lame Thread Prevention in Effect: Aaron Michelson --------------------------------------------------------------------- aw-teck'r (autechre) "Everything you Know is Wrong" For reviews, interviews, art & trash http://www.on-it.net/~aaron/ aaron@defiant.on-it.net

i've heard this opinion before and must protest. the only poor plaid mix i've heard and i think i have most of them is the deelite one. the studio pressure remix is quite quite astounding, as was the gregory fleckner mix, the mooking mix (sadly overlooked along with the acacia mix) and others which don't spring to mind quite so easily but i'm sure adam h can name for me. g.

dont you think the reason this list has been 'shit' of late is that the bulk of the discussion revolves around daft punk/chemical bros et al, mixmaster morris also posted to this effect recently - i was just trying to make the point that there is so much music out there that _should_ be getting discussed that _isn't_ cheers sm @ 4thworld -- http://dialspace.dial.pipex.com/4thworld/ check the 'propoganda' page - interviews + features on black dog/ as one/ musik aus strom / jimpster / compost / irdial + more

hm. i don't think it's too shitty. if i see something i don't like, i hit d. but i do think the roots of idm thread is one of the best i've seen in awhile (i'm gonna jump in on that one sometime soon). and as for certain bands not getting discussed: regardless of who's being discussed and how many bands are being discussed, there're going to be some bands that are going to be overlooked. and in this particular genre (whatever each and every one of you want to call it and whoever you all want to include--don't wanna start another what is idm thread) obscurity is the name of the game. :) np bee gees : night fever. <- NOT idm * * + * * \|/ * *----]euroboy[----]micah.stupak[----]mjsst87+@pitt.edu[------e-+ * >>bitwise.operators /|\ * * * + i hate anyone who sees me as an illusion of passion.

I think Mixmaster Morris can take his elitistshit and shove it! grin - i dont see it as being elitist, there is a differance between elitism and genuinely caring about the 'scene' you are involved in, morris has been around since day one and is one person i have a lot of respect for..his opinion counts for a lot in my book

IDM was set up many years ago to discuss forward thinking electronic music. I totally agree with you. Keep in mind however, this was many years ago when the only accessible mainstream electronica was Sunscreem. Are we allowed to talk about the Orb here, even though they're mainstream? Things have changed so dramatically over the last couple years. At one time, The Chemical Brothers were just two guys making rock-friendly techno, and an A&R guy got the wise idea of making them big. The same has happened the Prodigy, Underworld, and Daft Punk. I discuss the bands here that I enjoy, and that I feel should be shared. You'll definitely hear me talk about Daft Punk, Orbital and Underworld, but you'll probably never hear me discuss the chemicals or prodigy, simply because I don't like 'em (though I still do throw on the prodigy experience, just for laughs). But the same goes to lesser known bands. I'm still pushing Tipsy, Tranquility Bass, Jega, Sharp Scientific (who are currently working on an album from Silent), David Moufang, and DJ Spooky. Forget the politics. I want to discuss good music, whether it be mainstream or independent. My only worry is in a few years when all the Underworld and Orbital clones start coming out (you know, like grunge clones Silverchair, etc.) because that'll be the day we'll have to start sorting the crap from the gold.
