it's called MetaSynth. it extracts the spectra from a waveform and converts it to an image, which you can then mangle with any image tool (eg: photoshop) and then convert back to a sound. out of curiosity, is there any way to obtain metasynth besides registering as a member of an (or the?) ircam user group? -anders
