hahhaa ;) i think tapes are shit anyway, basically.. we came from vinyls, to tape, to cd.. I think vinyl is better sound quality than tape any day, obviously I guess, but still tapes should be the least thing to have an impact on record sales, DAT's would have a bigger impact, but not by much. Ironically, thanks to the Audio Home Recording Act, owners of DATs and other digital recording devices who make digital copies of copyrighted material for private use are exempted from copyright infringement liability (in return for this, record labels get royalties for every DAT or other digital recording device) sold. Depends on the audience. For trainspotters like us, it may even mildly boost them or at worst have no effect. For more mainstream audiences it most definitely does have an adverse effect - for them a song's a sociocultural experience whose medium is unimportant ("who cares if it's on tape or CD, I can play it in the car, right?") I agree! It would be diffrent if it was the masters to a new album you were copying, but a tape of a radio broadcast or a live gig hurts no-one, and in some cases is a benefit. Shit, look at the number of boots that have later had proper releases because they were so good. If it was me, I'd encourage it. Get everyone to bring a rec-walkman to the gig...spread the word. :) L8r, Eric.
