Hey all. Got two things up for grabs... BOYMERANG - latest 12" on Prototype (sorry, can't remember the title) Picked this up based on liking the Leaf single, but I just don't dig it. Only played once. I'd like to get $10 ppd for it, but might haggle a bit. Try me. UNIVERSAL INDICATOR GREEN on Rephlex Yeah, the 7"/10"/12" pack in a Rephlex shopping bag sleeve. Fairly standard Rephlexian U.I. mayhem. I dunno exactly who did what... I've heard that RDJ was involved somehow, but y'know how those rumours spread. Anyway, I think I'll do this one as an auction. Buyer pays shipping, blah blah blah. Send yer bids to stained@interlog.com - closes on Sunday, the 11th. Now, some assorted IDMish comments: Got a promo copy of the Bowie album last week, and y'know, it's not bad. Sure, if you're expecting something totally groundbreaking , etc., you ain't getting it here. But taken as a David Bowie album with d'n'b/techno elements added to the mix, it's quite listenable. Which is something I haven't been able to say about a David Bowie album in, oh, 15 years or so. :-) Gotta wonder, though, why the fuck they had the remixes for "Little Wonder" (prolly the most junglefied track on the disc) done by Junior Vasquez... like, hello? Why not Photek (they're on the same label!) or Sqpshr or even fucking Bukem? I don' unnerstan.

Ah, would ya give the "more IDM than thou" attitude a rest, Gonzi? Just cause some casual fan doesn't happen to know that DJ Food and Coldcut are almost one & the same, it doesn't mean that they're a fucking idiot. Yeah, we might be a bunch of sad spotters, but that doesn't mean that everyone listening to this music is. -----

(raises hand) Over here! Yup, that's right on the money. Although in my case, people have a hard time figuring out why one minute, they might walk by and find me listening to some electro-phunk thing, and the next, listening to some lounge/EZ listening. Keep 'em on their toes, that what I always say... :-)

These are the same type of people who were blaming heavy metal bands for their kids drinking, smoking dope and committing suicide back in the 80's. The type of parents who need a scapegoat to cover up the fact that they didn't raise their kids properly themselves. These sort of people will *always* exoist in one form or another. Just have to deal. Greg

I got this just a couple of weeks ago.. No one knows for sure if it's AFX, but I can tell you I'm 100% sure that the tracks on the 10" are definitely AFX, I am sure about my hearing, not that I know it from somewhere.. I am just 100% sure in my mind it's AFX because of hearing it and identifying his music. Tne 12" could be his, but the one track on the 7" isn't his I don't think, unless he did something weird, a bit of an "ambient vs. tb303 acid" type thing. then again, the entire album could have been done by him too, it's unfortunate no one knows.. Maybe we will know when/if the Universal Indicator compilation comes out? on the note of standard rephlexian U.I. mayhem (i'll give a more in-depth review), I've only heard red and green, but IMO red is not that much dance-floor oriented, where as green seems almost like if it was intended to be spun at a party. Totally awesome, aggressive beats. (NO, not jungle/breakbeat :P) anyhows excellent record, I regard it as one of the best records i've ever bought. -- Hillie aka Aurafix / PHD ja DAMONES hillien kotisivu - http://www.clark.net/pub/buh/index.html phase distortion - http://user.cs.tu-berlin.de/~airou/phd/ easy internet services - http://huizen.dds.nl/~eis Do re mi fa so la ti.. ...here's an old post from about a year-and-a-half ago that might answer your above question: ---------- Forwarded Message ---------- From: rephlex@dircon.co.uk (rephlex) Date: Tue, 12 Sep 1995 17:10:34 +0100 Subject: Re: idm V1 #234 TB303 (Blue) by KOSMIK KOMMANDO who also did the yellow one. TR606 (Red) by TAN 109 who also did 2/3 of the green one. You shouldn't have to pay $75 for these, ESPECIALLY as neither are by RDJ - the confusion comes courtesy of GREAT ASSET DISTRIBUTION, who stamped many of them for export with Aphex info, of course a low-down stinking lie (which is all you can expect from PAT and RAZ, two scum-sucking money- grabbing CUNTS who can't die soon enough as far as i'm concerned). Incidentally, they are two of our best selling records and ARE NOT RARE. Hope that's of some use. Wow. I think we can all agree that's quite a pair of ears you have there... I remember Grant telling us that 2/3 of the green UI was by someone called TAN 109, also responsible for the red UI.

Nah... something weird??? can't be him, just can't. Hey, I can get multiple copies of a new jungle 12" by someone calling himself Universal Indicator. I can't check the name in the credits right now, but whatever it is, it probably means James in Ukrainian anyway. Maarten on now: Hokusai - Black Rose, another fine slice of dark & rumbling drum & bass on (and by) Source Direct. on before: Panacea - Tron; pretty aggressive jungle on Chrome records. Not very deep nor intelligent, but pleasently loud & ridiculous.

It sure is, well.. I meant that I would believe 100% in my mind it's Aphex Twin unless someone knows for sure. i would like to KNOW from the dude who said TAN 01 did 2/3 of it, wtf did the other 1/3 ;) Just meant, like if I didn't know Global Goon wasn't Aphex Twin I would know it wasn't anyhow, I'd never think that record had anything to do with AFX, besides of coz that he's RDJ's flatmate.

haha, I don't consider his stuff weird, but yeah.. if you consider it weird, it's weird even for him, doesn't sound like him at all.. just a bunch of tb-303 ambient-ish synths that don't even sound like it's on a steady rhythm.

probably for the same reason the blue one is stamped Aphex Twin..... funny thing too, it is in the same rubber stamp type that rephlex used to use to label their records..... everyone SWEARS these arent aphex but EVERY copy I have ever seen in nyc (and that is only like 10) say this... did rephlex do this to drum up record sales? dollin the strange organization 445 e. 9th st ny.ny.10009 212.505.3025
