Has anyone heard anything from the Chem. Bros. / Noel Gallagher (Oasis) project? I'm not a big Oasis fan and I'm not sure if I should blow the $$ on it. Is it at all similar to the Chem. Bros. / Charlatans remixes? Also: Those who dig Scorn should pick up the new Mick Harris / James Plotkin album. Just got it. Fucking COOL.

It's called "Setting Sun," and like most projects involving Noel Gallagher, it sounds like a remake of a Beatles song (in this case, "Tomorrow Never Knows"). This is among the *loudest* CDs I own, and it's got a kitchen-sink production on it (kinda like the aforementioned Lennon/McCartney composition, or the KLF's "America: What Time Is Love?" if you are familiar with that track). It's merely OK (and in places rather annoying), and it's not much like the Charlatans mixes, really, I like those much more. Surprisingly, it's not Noel Gallagher that makes this song any worse than it might be, rather it's the way every instrument sounds like it's turned up to 11, including what sounds like a horn imitating an air-raid siren. The other track on the CD, "Buzz Tracks," is pretty decent, though. I'd say listen before you buy, if you can. -- Adam J Weitzman "Getting [your computer] to work is no more Individual, Inc. difficult than building a nuclear reactor weitzman@individual.com from wristwach parts using only your teeth." http://www.individual.com - Dave Barry

It's loud, it's hard, it rocks. Skip the vocal version, and go straight to the instrumental version on the b-side. And Buzz Tracks has already gone into my set of songs-to-mix-with. It's nice to know they haven't lost their touch. If you didn't like them before, this won't convert you, but if did, then this one's a must-buy. -Phil [----------] [---] [-----] [-----] [-----] [----------] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [----------] [----------] [---] [---] [----------] [----------] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [--------] [-----] [-----] [---] [-----] [----------] Home is where the stereo is!

Phil - Kudos to the comment about Buzz Tracks. Play it at 45, -8 and it kicks. I think the chems should have made another EP out of it, personally. It is in my personal music rotation along with the Chems instrumental version of Method Man - Release Yo'Delf. DELF, not Self... I wrote it right. =) If you haven't heard this track then you must. -Peter
