"Auntie Aubrey..." double-CD > which I nearly bought this weekend. Actually, it's pretty funny because I've been very disillusioned by the stuff Orb has put out lately but I decided to give this album a chance as I heard some of it was pretty dated. I'd say I'm about half happy about it. The first CD is amazing, all the tracks are excellent and are mixed together (although they also do fine separately). As for the other Cd, let's just say I've never been a big fan of Depeche Mode or Erasure... Another plus for the album is the 30 something page booklet included. I think they could have cut it down to about 20 pages and saved a couple hundred trees but it does include a full Orb discography ranging from the Kiss EP in '89 to Dr. Paterson's mixing job on Textures. On the other side of things I don't like the CD case design. You slide the discs into a vinyl-like holder and I'm worried about how long it will be before they scratch. Anybody else have this worry? Overall, I'm glad I bought the album. It has renewed my faith in the Orb and I can't wait 'til their next 'real' album. This should keep me occupied until then... Ciao for now, Chris.

whatever you do, don't leave the package in your car. i did, and the glue that holds one of the little pouches together melted a bit. the disc slid into the glue patch and then the glue hardened again when it got cold... took me a while to extricate the disc from the glue. it still plays fine, at least. i'm kinda disappointed in this set, but only from a technical standpoint. musically it's great but (a) the packaging really blows and (b) the discs are mostly in MONO... what's up with that!?!? -- Jon Drukman / jsd@cyborganic.com

Rumour has it that Orblivion, the next release, will be inna Drum'n'Bass stylee. -- Simon McGuire <expsrm@cascade.santos.com.au>

I know my Being double CD on Emissions is already badly scratched but so far plays OK. This was from the packaging which is a flexible plastic sleeve with a paper insert which rubs against the CDs every time you take them out. -Ed

Orb playing with d & b should be no surprise: a) Orbital did it, ie, "everybody's doing it"... b) more importantly, on the last tour, the Orb kicked out some of the Orbus Terrarum's tunes with junglized/d & b overtones, and it was well executed, tasty and added a deeply groovy element to the already brilliant tunes. ps--didn't mixmaster morris predict this sort of thing about 2 years ago? ;-)
