Funky Porcini: "Carwreck" EP (Ninja Tune) A1 'Carwreck (Wagon Christ mix)' - A bit droney, surprisingly monotonous for a Luke Vibert joint. Familiar-sounding breaks from the "Drum 'n Bass for Papa" LP. A2 'Carwreck (Original mix)' - Goddamn this is crazy! Disjointed, jazzy breaks and a mad bebop section right out of Dizzy Gillespie/Charlie Parker. Someone tell me where I can find more of this! B1 'Carwreck (Squarepusher mix)' - Bizzare hybrid of 'Peace Nail' (extreme flanged/distorted breaks) and 'Port Rhombus' (echoey muted percussion) - high on the schizophrenia scale. B2 'The Fly' - Cutup downtempo breaks with a - guess what - fly buzzing around in the background. Vert: "Broken Breakbeat Bebop" (Bovinyl Records) Bought this on recommendation from someone else on the list. Despite the title, it doesn't sound very close to true bebop, but it's quite good if you like your d&b funky and silly. Schlock melodies a la "Cheesy (Gigolo mix)" on Plug 2, and some decent programming. Recommended. GD

This is a fantastic record and really not especially cheesy or silly. Intricate cut-up dnb with a wry sense of humor and an instinct for real jazz. This is the first disk I've found that can sit next to Plug 2 on my shelf. Buy on sight. Miles
