the debut release on new uk based label awkward silence is a split single between berlin's arovane (uwe zahn) and christian kleine.
for arovane, this follows a number of important and successful releases on labels including din, city centre offices, fwd, morr and lux nigra.
christian kleine, a berlin based producer, has recently released his debut collaborative 12", 'transalpin', as hermann & kleine with thaddi hermann on city centre offices.
we won't insult you by 'namedropping' the people everyone compares these artists to - you know who they are already. we'll just say that arovane's 'yeer' is reminiscent of an old 8-bit recording and pays homage to the early years of the berlin electronic movement, while christian kleine's 'disper' shows his dynamic composition skills in development on this, only his second, release.

yellow6 'series 1' / portal 'series 1' (reworked) is artists / titles
awkward 02 is cat. no.
33.3 rpm 7" single limited to 500 copies is format
(07.02.00) theseventhoffebruarytwothousand is (uk) release date
the second release on new UK based label awkward silence is the first of two split singles between yellow6 (jon attwood) and portal (scott sinfield), both from the uk.
this record is part one of a two part set in which yellow6 and portal each provided an original track and then created a reworked version of each others songs, but without actually hearing the originals!
instead, they just swapped a chord chart for each track (a copy of which is enclosed with the single) and the results are found on side b of each release.
part two of this project will feature the lead track 'naming stars' by portal with the reworked version by yellow6. this will be awkward 03 and will follow soon (late march / early april 2000).
both artists have a healthy back catalogue of released work - both singles and albums - on several important labels, including: enraptured, atomic, ochre and bearos for yellow6, and earworm (split release with fridge), roisin and aluminaut for portal.
previously compared to boards of canada and magnetophone, yellow6 bridge the gap between fragile feedback-driven post rock and the most delicate melodic electronica, which is particularly noticeable with 'series 1'.
portal's reworked take on the track shows a fresh side to their sound and offers a different view of the piece, incorporating pulsing drum beats and gentle atmospherics.
