Hey folks. I've been lurking here for a couple o' weeks now (well, I've made a small post or two, I think), and I've been enjoying it for the most part (aside from the whole ltd edition arguement, which gave me some nasty flashbacks to a similar thread that infiltrated the World Serpent list a while back). Nothing has really inspired me to respond, though, until several things in the latest digest caught my eye. So figured I'd put in my two cents on a couple of topics, as well as adding a few new things. +++++

I just wanted to say "word!" to Jon, he knows of which he speaketh (or something like that). I stuff my ears at almost every show/club/loud event that I go to now, either with those little yellow styrofoam plugs that you can get at a hardware store for 49 cents (they're in a little blue package and are labelled "E.A.R.", you can't miss 'em), or if I forget them at home, with small wads of kleenex/toilet paper. (Just be careful with the latter - a friend of mine once used wads that were too small, and we had to take him to emergency to get one removed 'cause he jammed it in too far.) I'm 27, and I *know* that my hearing isn't as good as it was 10 years ago due to too many concerts without earplugs. Luckily, I outgrew my rebellious nature (and my fear of looking like a dork) and listened to my dad who is partially deaf from working as a welder for many years. Trust me, kids. Wear plugs now so you can listen later. +++++

Sorry, but I gotta call "bullshit" on this one. The example that everyone seems to like to use is "look at how mainstream punk became when MTV started playing Green Day". Yeah, agreed, a lot of crappy mainstream-ish punk rawk got hyped, etc., etc.. But there's still a thriving, healthy, and untainted punk underground out there. I have a friend in his mid-30's who was a punk back when it all began, and who has remained in touch with the scene for the last 20 years, and he says there's more great punk bands around now than at any other point since the late 70's/early 80's when the first wave "died". The same'll happen with techno/IDM... and even *moreso*, since techno/IDM encompasses so many different sounds and styles, from electro to acid to drum 'n' bass and beyond. There will always be an "underground" (a term that I sort of hate, actually, since it suggests an elitism that I try to avoid, but I'm sure you get my meaning). +++++ OK, now the new stuff. (1) Does anyone have a *complete* listing of Rephlex releases past, present and future? I know I'm missing a few things (especially the early ultra- limited stuff), but I'd still like to know what to keep an eye out for. If it matters, I tend to opt for the CD release unless the vinyl is really nifty (coloured, etc.) or has extra tracks. (2) Does anyone happen to have an extra copy of Jake Slazenger "Megaphonk" promo 12" laying about that they'd be willing to part with? (yeah, I know, prolly not bloody likely, but it's worth a shot) (3) For those of you in Toronto and vicinity... is there any interest amongst y'all for a monthly (or so) evening of IDM/ambient/trip-hop/etc. in a club atmosphere as opposed to the typical 'n' traditional rave-style gatherings? I ask this because there's a chance that I might be able to snag a club space once or twice a month, probably on Wednesday nights, to hold such an event, but an attempt that some friends and I made last summer with a similar theme, but it failed pretty miserably. Let me know what you think, either privately or via the list. cheers, Greg http://www.interlog.com/~stained/feedback
