Sean Joseph Portnoy <portnoy@chaph.usc.edu> typed: remember i said the closest thing to idm, a relative thing considering they play so much crappy house. and if i scan over to it again and hear that song with an phone message from madonna on it, i'm going to scream. ----->>Hehehehehe. What about the crap house song that keeps saying "I know my name...". :P Sean Joseph Portnoy <portnoy@chaph.usc.edu> also typed: does anyone have any info on this groove radio (besides the swedish eagle's involvement) and should we expect their formate to stay the same? if so, then i can avoid it once and for all, and complain all the more bitterly about the lack of idm on l.a. radio. ----->>Well...Egil told me that when the DJ's hit the air, there will be a bit more of "better" music. Egil just offered me the opportunity to pitch him a specialty show, and one of the ideas I gave him was for an "idm-ish" show...so we'll see...maybe it'll happen, i'll let you know... in any case, i know that he wants to try to balance out the commercial cheese with other stuff -- which is smart...because IMHO if that commercial cheese isn't there, than neither will the advertisers be. we all want a station with a higher quality playlist, but i think the approach needs to be more general in order to keep the thing on the air, at least in its early stages. i mean, think about it, an all-idm format (no matter how much we'd all praise it) would not be able to survive on a commercial frequency. america is not there yet. hell, i don't think england is there yet, either. so let's try to take the good with the bad and see the ultimate goal. if groove radio becomes somewhat successful here in los angeles, could other cities be too far away? keep your fingers crossed for me... ____ Hug Your Waistline to the Bassline Tamara Palmer trance@netcom.com Women Respond to Bass

Seems like you're wondering if commercial radio is ready for a new format. Well, here in Atlanta at least, it seems like that's a far and distant prospect. The only radio stations with _any_ IDM/electronic content are a couple of college radio stations, and neither has more than 4-6 hours a week of it. The one "alternative" commercial radio station that tried doing a dance theme show broadcast live from one club in Atl every Saturday from 9pm-1am. The only problem: no intelligence whatsoever. I dug some of the music, but the real problem was the advertising. Every other commercial was for beer. Beer this, get drunk here, smash your face into your neighbor there, and act as stupid as you can. That was all I ever heard on that station during that show. That, and the DJ constantly saying how cool you'd be if you'd wander on down to the club. My theory on where IDM is going to hit big is sitting right in front of you. The technology's almost there, and when enough people become wired, those who deliver quality content first will most likely win. There are certainly enough "bedroom/basement DJs" out there to deliver the content. OnNow: The Wamdue Project: Breakdown- Going Blind Mix -- guyjr@cc.gatech.edu a.k.a., Guy Elden Jr.
