I saw Everything But The Girl last evening at the Supper Club in NYC. They played two new songs from their new album which is coming out early next year. One was called "Mirror Ball", and the other was called "Bad Day". I couldn't help but think of Underworld when I heard these pounding beats. Did Underworld ever remix "Two Star"? Paul Rafanello

Everything but the Girl's new album, "Walking Wounded", out now - it has lots of IDM-related styles, from slow Massive Attack-like torch songs and housey tracks to Spring Heel Jack-produced melocholic jungle and Howie B's trademark remix sound (think "Hyper-ballad"). Comes with one remix by Todd terry and one by Omni Trio. Quite nice, especially if you're an EBTG fan to begin with. (Not sure about their other albums, but "Idlewild" at least was a classic.) Kind of funny realizing that Ben Watt is actually doing jungle drum programming now. It's like Morrissey coming up with a trip hop tune. (Then again, there's that Silverfish woman turning into Ruby.) I'm also guessing that "Walking Wounded" the single could be the intro to jungle for a lot of people, who might buy the album based on the hit "Missing". "In a nutshell, Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn take the lyrical ramblings of Underworld and straighten them out into unabashedly beautiful pop songs" I've been a fan of ebtg since '85, and this release is for mall rats as far as I'm concerned. While the lyrical content is high, the sameness of the tracks leaves me cold. The faint house piano in "Wrong" is nice, but was it really necessary to re-write "Missing" eight times?
