Just arrived: Flare (Ken Ishii) new album, "Grip", on Sublime Records. yak
from Japan once wrote to IDM about this. It's a 10-track album, very nice,
lots of mutating Detroitish sounds, like a weirder version of Kirk De Giorgio
(sp?) stuff, with the now-recognizable strange tones and melodies that Ishii
has frequently used. ART/B12 fans should like this a lot. It's SBLCD5011(CD).
Bonus mini-CD comes with a 6 MB Director movie. It's got one QuickTime movie
of Ishii performing live, and one Director animation/movie that's slightly
Tomato in parts, with flashing text and vague 3D shapes. Also an Ishii discog
(just text, shucks).
There's supposedly a "Grip" remix album coming soon. Just might be the next
Nav Katze or Soft Ballet for everyone to watch for.
Now then: all I want is to see the anime promo video for "Extra"...
On now: Flare: Cycling Round (sweet! reminds me of B12's "Cymetry".)
