Ack! By gods, this is pure heresy! Whats the point of someone going through all the trouble of careful drum programing and looping if we're all going to play it too damn slow? Jungle is meant to be fast and freaky. I hope none of you bad kids :) out there are doing this, cause it goes right into the hall of shame along with the old practice of speeding up hip-hop records to make them breakbeat tracks and giving all the rappers high and whiny voices. I've heard both of these practices, as I'm sure all of you have, and it sounds pretty weak... -Fresh

I enjoy jungle to a certain degree, but I don't ussually buy any because most of it is just a bit to frenetic and gets me too jumpy! :) Anyway, I'm probably not the only one, but I love jungle that is pressed on vinyl at 45 rpm, so that I can play it at 33 rpm, where it turns into nice break-trance if done right. There are a few releases that work that way, including some old Photek and Creative Source. My request is that anyone who posts about jungle vinyl here tell us the speed of the pressing, and optionally, what it sounds like at 33 if pressed at 45. If anyone has any suggestions for other jungle releases like this, let me know! Hell yeah!!! I keep tellin' my friends to do this and they all tell me I'm smoking too much dope...Check out Droppin' Science Remix v2 "Firing Line" for a tune which is absolutely much better at 33rpm, after all: 1) More bass 2)more song 3)more mellllllowwww. On a related note, I just picked up "Self-Evident Truth" and....damn..this shit is good (I've stopped listening to Homebrew...) [although I can do without that cheeky bit between tracks 9 and 10...what the hell is up with that bullshit?]...So, is "Police State" just as good? khannan suntharam kxs28972@bayou.uh.edu

While probably not the producer's original intent (who would be able to tell, anyway?), it has produced a small but tenacious slowed-jungle scene in some parts of the world as well as making an appearance on the JDJ Coldcut CD. I think it's rad, as I tend to do with tracks with adventurously programmed rhythms. Some of that Photek stuff is pressed at 45, and so is the Destination Africa Jungle mix by Moody Boys, but you might also venture into the experimental electro and triphop sections of your favorite reseller and scoping out their new jungle and rhythmically explorative rekks. Its coming out all the time, though the fact that a lot of jungle is pressed at 33 nowadays might be a sign of that intent that was mentioned somewhere else. eric

Really kids, haven't we all learned by now that it doesn't matter what speed you play your records at. If it sounds good just play it. Discreetly Jeff

Don't know about playing his own stuff at 45, but he does play his records at +8 :) (read that in his Mixmag interview, Oct.94).... ____ __,--- --.__ ,- ; .
