Apologies, but I can't remember the original name of this thread. I recently bought Speedy J's G-Spot after it was recommended to me in this mailing list. I thought that it was very good, if a little different to some of my other dance records. I especially liked the 2nd track "Ping Pong". Can somebody recomend some other good IDM albums (with a fast beat?) available on CD? Also, I love House and Techno music. Is there any Intelligent versions of this type of music? If so could you recommend an album available on CD? TIA, mdumble@cix.compulink.co.uk

Well, Speedy J is _my_ definition of IDM :) For starters you could try to get more of the same thing; I wouldn't really recommend Speedy J's previous Cd ("Ginger" on Warp records, WARP CD14) since it's not really as good as G Spot, but "Live" contains tracks from both albums plus "Symmetry", which is on Warp' "Artificial Intelligence II" too. I definitely recommend "Live" -- it's pretty danceable :) For more danceable stuff, you can try getting "The essential mix show" mixed by Snap! on Mercury (528 675-2) -- I don't know if it would fit the list's definition of IDM, but it is pretty close to mine. I like it anyway. Good listening! -- Alessandro Bianchini bianchini@ibm.net +39 368 3190200 bianchin@librs6k.vatlib.it

It's not an album but if you liked _Ping-Pong_, you'll probably get a kick out of Speedy Js _Pepper_ 12" that was out on Warp a while back. There was a CD single with an extra remix too. Good housy stuff.

Model 500 : _Deep Space_ and Kenny Larkin : _Metaphor_ are both excellent LP techno LPs that at times veer towards house (not so much the Larkin LP). ...and if you can find it, 808 States _Quadrastate_ (on Creed) is a brilliant techno betwixt house hybrid. Get a hold of 3 Phase's "Schlangenfarm". Excellent stuff, quite housey but pretty intense at the same time. Should still be available on CD (Tresor in Europe). Anyone know what he's up to these days? Ashok
