Yes, yes and yes!
Yes: Technova did release albums (as well as some singles); two if I'm
correct. One was called something like "Mantra", don't remember the name of
the other one. One was pretty good, but I didn't buy it (god knows why).
Yes, they are telling you lies! Techno Animal (the ones that made the
"Re-Entry" 2xCD) is in fact Kevin Martin (of God, Ice, Pathological Records,
and god knows what other mayhem) and Justin Broadrick (of Godflesh, among
others). Contrary to what their backgrounds might suggest, "Re-Entry" is NOT
grindcore, industrial guitar noise or whatever you might wanna call it. It's
a big, dreamy, dark, slow dubby monster with Scorn-type grooves and layers
of synths, tapes & effects. Towards the end of the (more soundscape-ish)
second CD there's some tracks that sound like they could've been on Aphex'
"SAW II". And therefore:
Yes: it is, in my opinion, a definite contender for Album Of The Year - but
I'm a Godflesh fanatic as well, so maybe I'm biased. Whatever. Check it out
if you get the chance.
Um, there was a release on Rising High a month ago or so by a band called
Techno Animal, but I never managed to get a hold of it, so it might have
been another Techno Animal then the one that did "Re-Entry", and may have
even been something to do with Dave Harrow, so maybe my answer should read
"Yes, Maybe, Yes". Anyone know anything about this single? (where to get it
for instance?)
Bye,
Maarten
